Description

BIXI is Montréal’s new public bike system. It’s the bike that’s really an alternative means of urban transport. Accessible to everyone, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, three seasons of the year, from May to November. Take one when you need one, and leave it any station when you arrive at your destination. For a trip on the fly or as part of your daily routine – go BIXI! The stations are installed progressively in the spring, starting at the beginning of May, depending on weather conditions. Stations are kept in service until the end of November before being removed from the streets during harsh winter months. Gives you the right to an unlimited number of trips in a 24-hour period. For each trip, the first 30 minutes are included! Usage fees will be charged for longer trips. Thanks Magik

This is an awesome idea! But here in the states, North Carolina to be exact.....I don't think it would work, too many people that don't care about other peoples property! Fantastic shot, love the idea!

I've heard they started that idea on a trial basis in HoustonSan Antonio and Dallas, wouldn't work in Elpaso though, all the Bikes would end up across the Border in Juarez Mexico. Peace

Great idea to reduce cars on the road but surely it would depend on peoples honest, whats to stop someone pinching them.. so do they have a GSP system in them somewhere? What would stop dishonest people that would probably be used to get home and leave them somewhere or else throw them on the railway tracks like shopping trundlers are here in NZ.. I do hope the idea works..

Ce que je trouve drôle, c'est le parking à vélos devant un opticien, qui a lui aussi un vélo sur sa vitrine !

We have exactly the same thing in London, so these racks are now commonplace around our city too. Great capture - you have an eye for uniformity that I've always admired. Have a great weekend, Réal!

A Paris, la moitié des vélos sont détruits (dont certains jetés dans la Seine), ou volés chaque année. Je ne comprend pas pourquoi ils continuent.

great foto, we had such scheme in the sixties here in amsterdam, called " het witte fietsen plan" If i remember me well, all bikes where stolen within a week, I hope they installed some form of gps tracking so they can find back "lost" bikes.
