Description

After feeding on my buddleia for a spell, this Red Admiral alighted on the side garden gate post - unfortunately rather tatty, but I don't treat wood. In fact I usually build with sturdy branches and when it rots, I replace it. Wood preservative, although a wonderful invention, is simply not something I'd ever use. Hence - tatty wood here and there, and obviously this little chap decided it was a nice warm place to alight while it digested it's food. I still await my Incense shrubs flower eruption which it just beginning. All butterflies, hovers, bees and beetles will fly in and hopefully give me the opportunity to point camera and click! I shall return later to play catch-up, for now though, a flare-up has arrived, so I shall take myself and Barney off into the wilds, find a stream, sit on butt and contemplate my navel, whilst meditating and telling myself that this too shall pass. Thank you for comments, faves and taking the time to look. ^=^

I've noticed that whenever flareups of ANYTHING occur, simply grounding yourself in Nature helps...yeah, okay, and Barney-type company never hurts either: unless, of course, the aforementioned Barney-type company lands on you after failing to successfully climb a tree. For some reason, dogs express sudden arboreal ambitions whenever I'm around, but that's a rant for another day. I envy your ability to capture butterflies. As I mentioned in your water hemlock post, I have quite a bit of trouble capturing butterflies and moths...possibly because of my fondness for predatory yellow jackets who recognize larval butterflies as a wonderful taste treat, and nutritious food for their own larvae. And so having said that, I am quite at peace with the manner in which I must obviously exude yellow jacket warning signs to anything that flutters rather than buzzes. I love the colors in this and the wood textures. I must say that I quite agree with the wonderful inventiveness that goes into wood treatment, but I find that I rather like decaying wood as well, and so I tend to favor regular replacement of some wood rather than over-use of artificial stuff; yeah, I'll treat interior surfaces, building surfaces and stuff like that, but I'll replace fence bits if necessary, or give woodlice a nice edible home in the shape of a picnic table. My how I'm rambling! Anyway, this is a great shot. I particularly love the contrast of the vivid butterfly and the more washed out wood on which he's resting. This is a great shot, and I really like the DOF.
