Description

This one is for you Mike, The historical "truth" behind poledancing.......... In his comment on my "Dr. Livingstone I presume?" image Mike pointed out a mistake I made in the story and that was what made me aware of the fact that he really read this little historical piece. This led me to believe that Mike,(like myself) values the importance of historical truth over just looking at naked girls.............. LOL So with that thought in mind I made this image for him. The story behind poledancing takes us back to the iron age, around 850-400 BC, when a diverse group of tribal societies made there way through central Europe. These people, known as Celts, were actually the first to have displayed the act of what we now call poledancing. And as I will explain to you, that it was not, as some now believe, an act to get people in a silly state of mind. In those troublesome times there was a lot of rivalry between the different tribes and there were a lot of battles to be fought. The men did not have time to do a honest days labor, so this task was taken on by the young woman of the tribe. When building new shelter to live in, the woman used to set up the first pole and then climb it to build the rest of the tent. They needed to act out all kinds of strange movements to get everything in place and to not loose contact with the pole to prevent sustaining an injury. Because of this difficult task their bodies developed into the shape we still see today with modern professional pole dancers, who still must have a lot of celtic blood in their vains. As you can imagine those girls would not do all of this dangerous work for free so everytime the men came back from a battle they used to pay the woman for their time and trouble. Not being the civilised men that we are now instead of giving the coins to the woman, they used to throw them towards them and the girls had to pick them up when they finished work. I really don't know what people nowadays think they are looking at in various bars and clubs, but I know I still go look at it from a historical perspective......... So as I have explained above there is a perfectly decent story behind poledancing and I made this little diorama style image to make it more understandable. Ok that's enough nonsence for today, I hope you all like this little madman's tale, thanks for droping in and for the nice and funny comments on my "Dr. Livingstone I presume?" image. Enjoy, Ed. PS I think I know a perfectly good explanation for the lapdance too but that's a whole other story....... Nice! An incredible rationalization of the modern urge to go and watch "pole dancers." Well done in any case.

That was FAR OUT ED!!! I looked at your image in awe and thought, now there is a tombstone and where this stick or steak is located that the woman is on is right in line with where a person's heart would be - lol... yes, If your fans didn't read your cool writings, they are now confused that poledancing is tied in with vampireizm - lol... but you and I now know better - lol Your words entertained me, especially this part: I really don't know what people nowadays think they are looking at in various bars and clubs, but I know I still go look at it from a historical perspective......... ....LOL.... you didn't really say that, did you? LOL Awesome post, Awesome picture and if Renderosity had their front page set up for the BEST POSTS instead of the most fave, my friend, Yours would be in first place!

Very interesting historical fact that I now have to look up. You are the second person today that has inspired me to do some research. I have a book that I keep when I find new and interesting facts! It is dated of course so that I can look back at it. Thank you for the inspiration. Great image!
