Description

Here are both ships. Maybe this gives an idea of the scale I as thinking of. The nebula is a stock free image which I tweaked the hue on. The planet is flaming pear. Created in photoshop, used as a background in Carrara 8. Rendered twice (once for the clouds) and then both layers tweaked again in Photoshop. As mentioned before, influenced by a lot of artists. Probably mostly Stephan Martiniere. This is a big image. Please look at the full sized image to see the detail. Thanks for looking. ***UPDATE*** This image, along with the asteroid one "may" be featured in issue 136 of 3DWorld!

I'm thinking 60's sci-fi paperback cover...all that's missing is the text. Brilliant execution man, really well done!

Well this really came out beautiful... would love to see this animated... can just see elements rotating around the center core...

Exceptionally cool. It's always so tricky to determine the appropriateness of lens flare, but, in this case, not only was it the perfect call, but it lends a stylistic completeness to the whole image, I think. To be concentric circles over the planet is just plain great composition. Woohoo. Love it.

Absolutely spectacular work, and defiantly worthy of adorning a book cover.

Well, thank you. I don't think it's as "Arty" as Foss, but to be compared is an honor. I always like Chris Foss and John Harris. So there's probably a little of both artists in there.

Excellent render, interesting question about how to imply scale without a known reference object or atmosphere - space dust works very well :)

Excellent ships and scene! I agree, more Martiniere than Foss, for sure. And not as painted at Harris, either. But then again, no reason why you can't have your own style...
