Description

A fishing village on the North Cornish coast that surrounds a picturesque harbour, Port Isaac is a step back in time. The houses here, mostly 18th and 19th century, lie along the sheltered valley and are built into the steep surrounding cliffside and the majority of streets are exceptionally narrow. One is actually called Squeezeebelly Alley! From the Middle Ages, Port Isaac imported and exported ores, limestone, salt and pottery among other commodities, via the small harbour. This came to an end when the railway stepped in and new roadways were built. One industry which remains strong, however, is the fishing for crab and lobster which are landed daily. Four such small crab and lobster craft can be in this image. Also in the image is a chap atop the cliff, along with 3 dogs! I must admit I'd do that walk with Barney only after he was taught the use and deployment of a parachute or read a book on absailing - twice! ^=^ I took this walk from Tintagel Castle and it is one I take as much as I am able before and after the holiday season here ends. On a late warm spring or early autumn day, to sit on a rock overlooking this pretty harbour, armed with a book, a flask of coffee or blueberry juice, is what I call total bliss! Thank you for taking the time to look. ^=^

Super photo Carpathia! It's a fair walk from Tintagel over the cliff path. 6 miles or so? Beautiful scenery though! I remember Squeezeebelly Alley well, and that antique shop that used to sell hugely expensive vegetables on a Sunday with a free antique (to get over the Sunday trading laws.) :)
