Description

Jack Thompson of Royal Gardens subdivision prepares to hike it back to his house. His house is the only and last one standing in that subdivision since the lava had over ran that area. To get to his house, you must cross over the current active lava flow and hike up the Pali (hill). He still lives there in the smoke, fumes and heat and hikes it in and out when ever he needs supplies. Zoom in to see what's under his back pack. You got it! Gas for his generator. He's got to be one of the bravest guy around. Aloha and thank you for viewing

An interesting shot and human interest story. I hate going grocery shopping but I had better stop complaining after seeing what Jack goes through for supplies. Makes my little supply run a piece of cake.

Incredibly dramatic scene. His house still stands? Amazing I remember months ago when you mentioned him and his house. I hope he wins!!!! Wonderful shot, heart wrenching really.

You gotta be brave carrying a bomb on your back on over lava. I get nervous carrying just my camera out there, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Good luck Jack! Aloha~

Wow--he walks with GAS on his back--he IS a brave guy--- and a most intrepid one as well. I remember seeing a foto once of another man who lived in one of the areas where the lava had claimed most of the houses. He had to hike over the lava, then ride a bike to get supplies. Do you know of him as well?

Thank you, Errol, for this look into a life very different from ours. This makes me sad... Has anyone offered him alternate shelter or is he just that stubborn? I'm thinking most likely stubborn and he's probably related to a Tennessean somewhere. lol See, as often happens your image brings on a rolling imaginary tale~ I wish him well and salute his efforts.

Marilyn...Before more lava had blocked his house, he would ride his motorcycle across the lava fields and off to stores to get supplies. But now he has to hike his way thru the hot active lava fields, across the lava tubes and have someone pick him up to get to the stores. Deb..Where else can you live where the lava flow is literally right in your back yard. Jack won't move away from his home, its a paradise to him. He is a celebrity and people are calling on him for a visit (via way of helicopter of course). Thanks for asking....

I have to admit I don't have to cross an active lava field to get my groceries, though it is uphill both ways, LOL!

Wow, so he is living right in the heart of the action, but I don't think I would be carrying gas over hot lava.

Una persona fuori dal comune , coraggiosa e testarda , ma in fondo ,da capire: il suo mondo รจ quello . One person out of the ordinary, brave and stubborn, but basically, to understand: his world is. Interesting shot and story ! Aloha , Errol
