Description

Yesterday was stupendous in every sense of the word! We took a walk not taken for a very long time. I think Mitzi was around 10 the last time I ventured in that direction. I took a Bridle way, close to me, into a very ancient woodland, once part of the Luxulylan valley which can still be entered from this direction. This woodland though it very high up and dense with oak. Its trees reach back into prehistory, or at least the forefathers of what stands now do. Rarely is this walk used as one can tell from the overgrown trails, but the fight with bracken, thorn and branch was so worth it! I came across this oak leaf lying in its own shaft of sunlight! I doubt it is this years, as it is forever autumn in floor colour within this part of the woodland. The soil is testament to that. The smell of the rich, almost black organic ground laid down over millenia is better than any perfume could ever be. Not that I'd actually dab it behind my ears, you understand. That really would be too weird! ^=^ I was going to return there today to get some images of the ancient drystone buildings almost hidden now by undergrowth. However, as someone once said be careful what you wish for - guess he/she was speaking directly to me! I have been hoping for a little shower or two during a very dry few month's and it appears to have arrived with the gusto of a downpour in the Amazon! Most of it directly over me! It's okay though, 'cos rain and I are buddies! Not so rain and camera! And definitely not so Barney! Weird creature that he is. He'll splash, swim or run around in water but he hates the rain! His eyes close up, his tail - a very long tail I might add, when in a vertical position - hangs limply down to his heels and he takes on the demeanour of a earless Vulcan! Even getting him out of the door is a trial, and as the car is still waiting for repair - this IS Cornwall - we are doomed to do a Gene Kelly impression.... well - not so much the sing with umbrella thing - but you get my drift! Oh today is going to be fun! Thank you for the faves and such and for taking the time to look. ^=^

What a brilliant writer you are, Carpathia! We were promised that rain but as it looks as though it might be Noon before it arrives. I may get a few more bulbs in. Ralph is 'sunbathing' but he may be suddenly surprised very soon.

The light, colors, and textures are fantastic! I love the green of the moss and the dry, crinkly leaf. Summer is, indeed, ending and I'm quite happy with that: not because I want summer to end, but the colder months are always so great for writing (for me at least) but I'll miss the insects and people dressed in lighter clothing, rather than the cocoons that Chicagoans tend to wear. Oh well... Back to this shot, it's a gorgeous and delicate piece of work.
