Description

As an update...... 10-24-10..... I have been in contact with the artist that left the comment that prompted this image. I am pleased to say that we now have a good relationship, so I am making a few changes in the narrative here. I harbour no ill will towards her. Art is a very subjective thing. We all have our likes and dislikes, but one thing that is very important to remember is to treat everyone with respect - the old Golden Rule. It's just that simple. We're ALL creative beings - that's why we are here on Rendo... How boring it would be if we all liked and/or created the same type or genre of artwork... I'll get off my soapbox, now! LOL! Well, I got home tonight, and while perusing my e-bots - and all the wonderful comments about my last upload - Thank you all! Anyway, thanks to everyone else for your wonderful comments! And while we're on the subject of comments.... I have absolutely NO problem with someone leaving a criticism - to the contrary I WELCOME it! Constructive criticism is the way we all improve. So if you see something in my work that needs fixed, please let me know. I've had some wonderful suggestions from folks here, and it is deeply appreciated! Hope everyone here has a great Friday!

Dear Rob, I must say that "crappy" is the mind and soul of a person who enters someone else's gallery for the sole purpose of bringing good work and/or people down. I, for one, can say that your art is truly wonderful and praiseworthy, perhaps to the extent that it goes beyond the grasp of lesser intellects. This is a wonderful image and her expression is really priceless! Monica

I agree with you completely Rod! Critical comments should be constructive, not just rude! Don't let it stop you from doing what you like to do....most of us like it too! Speaking of which, this is a very nicely composed scene with great use of light and shadow! Beautiful work! And hey, canned asparagus do very nicely for my soup recipe! :)

I went back to that posting (not too hard as it was the previous posting) and I read her 'critique' I have learned that a critic is one who cannot produce art and therefore feels qualified to judge it. I have run across these 'fine' and I use the term loosely, people and they deserve no more than they produce which is, as we have noticed, nothing! End of my 'rant As for this piece of art, I do not find it crappy, nor offensive nor any other negative(ism). I do find it well done, nicely pose and delightfully well-lighted. In other words, excellent work, Rod!

She obviously has something against nudity. I was chastised by her because one of my characters was topless today. Said Gene Roddenberry wouldn't like it. Well that's ok. Keep up the wonderful 'crap' work.

I've had those comments straight to my face. One time I was airbrushing Tshirts at a local mall and had one guy exclaim about my crappy art. Well I turned around and asked "And I suppose you can do better?" "I sure can!" the guy replied. "Well have a go at it..." The guy fumbled with the airbrush, squirted a fewe blobs, then humility caused him to say "Well I, I, I guess I can't."

Rod, you are a big man. A big man handles this type of criticism well and that's exactly what you've done. A-1 comments above! You do super work, you create something where nothing existed before and you enjoy the *&#;! out of it:-) So, keep up the great work. I look forward to your posts each and every time. Poser ain't easy! ...you've mastered it. If Poser isn't art, then a lot of people on Renderosity and elsewhere must be wrong. Great render tonight too!!! Keep smiling and pay no attention to someone without a gallery.

Oh lordy ... I could go on and on forever on this topic! The short version is that what people think of your art is all about them and not at all about you. It's the same art ... it doesn't change from one viewing to the next ... and people respond based on who THEY are, not on who you are or what your art looks like. (Personally, I'm mystified by the whole "half-naked-woman-with-scrolly-armor-and-scary-weapons" thing, but that doesn't mean it can't be well done ... only that I don't find it very interesting! Different fantasies, ye ken?) And I did happen to notice that your half-naked-weapon-wielding woman was filed under "fantasy," and not "realism" or "aviation," for example. That means she doesn't have to be real (or any other thing she's not) in any sense of the word. Just my two cents worth, which is probably about what it's worth! :P

Oh I have come across these toads before and I really do think they should be pointed to the mods. In all honesty I wish RMP would develop a rule that says, no posts, no comments. Lurking is fine, but put or shut up. Many of these petrid pukes are just as "inspired art" points out... talentless and worthless, they have nothing uplifting to bring to the world so it is their self assigned task to make others miserable just like them. Don't sweat the small stuff Rod.

Just let it go and do what you like to do. If others like it, then you made their day and they made yours. Others just like to complain, maybe that's THEIR way of enjoying your art LOL! Personally, if something isn't my cup of tea, I just move on - different strokes for different folks like the old motorcycle ad. Some people are just full of themselves though - gee, am I alluding to "crap" now too??? LOL! In the final analysis, an artist has to be true to themselves and their work - and you should keep on doing just that.

This is great Rod and so was yesterdays, and when Apple UK (not sure if it is male or female) can do work as good as this and actually post something that others can comment on and criticize then they have a right to comment on others work. Another words here is the challenge Apple UK ...PUT UP OR SHUT UP... other than that I wouldn't be bothered by a comment by someone like that.. Love the use of jenny and chucks props too Fantastic work and posting Rod well done on the crappy image.. Oh and I will favour it too lol

Lol Good on you Rod. Just so you know, my lack of comments in recent months is due to time constraints and I leave Bazza ( my husband) to go thru the galleries and comment. Take it as said, that any comment he makes conveys my view as well. It never ceases to amuse me when someone who produces nothing and has nothing to show as work, has the cheek to pop onto other peoples galleries and spout forth criticisms and seem to think anyone else gives a hoot what they think. Bazza told me all about appleuk's comments. I wait with bated breath for him /her to discover my crappy art too. I shall then have a good laugh at his or her expense. I am just thankful that, that particular user is not a typical user of Renderosity, as most of the people on here are both kind and helpful, and a great encouragement to new artists and people learning to use programs like Poser and Daz Studio. It annoys me that users like him could discourage new artists from puttting up their artwork. Who cares if the work is up to his or her standard or view as artwork. He should do what the rest of us do, if we haven't anything good or helpful to say, say nothing, I await the magnificent works of art he or she are going to wow us with. Hope he/she is not disappointed when no body bothers to comment on his/her work, or perhaps the comments are just asking for critical comments in return.

I am often reminded of the quote: I don't know if it's art, but I like it." I have never claimed to be an artist,, and if you look at the stuff I've posted here you'll find pplenty of evidence to back me up on this. But like you I do things because they are pleasing to me, and occasionally one pleases me enough that I feel it worth sharing with others. If I only get one positive response it has been worth it, because something I have done has somehow made another person's day better. Judging from the responses you have elicited here you have made plenty of people's days better (including my own), so I wouldn't be too overly concerned by the rude and idiotic comments of someone who has nothing to offer besides rude and idiotic comments. Or, to put it another way: "Go, man, go!: : )

Critics are a dime a dozen and not worth that much. Constructive criticism that helps one achieve more is very welcome and sometimes priceless. Every image I view teaches me something, even if I never use what I learn. Render on, Dude! Nice image.

Hi Rod Wow...I just commented on your pic Retribution and then saw this one and couldn't believe what the 'art critic' had to say. As others have said here, your work is NOT crappy!! The details and work you put into your work shows clearly! We all have different tastes in art...I see impressionist paintings that look like a drunk chimpanze did it, but yet people love it and will pay BIG money for it...me, I like a picture that I can look at and say yes, that's (a still life, landscape, etc) If we all liked the same thing the world would be a very boring place. Maybe some day appleuk will take their head out of their butt and see what art really is.

I see she has deleated her a Gallery, I remember A comment she left me a couple weeks ago to say she was not happy that she didn't recive as many comments as I Did!! Very Strange Indeed! I just had to make the time to put in my 2 cents worth. Rod, that’s the most delicate rant I’ve read. Most, myself included, would not have put it so . . . nicely. Here’s my take on the matter. I’m here because I enjoy doing this. I have no ambitions of becoming a Da Vinci or even a Frazetta. I do this because I find it relaxing and it helps me de-stress from the “real” world. It keeps me sane. If I can come up with something that brings pleasure to others and helps ease their day, then that gives me pleasure too and helps ease my day. I think most of us fall into this category. The posts I see here, yours included, Rod, are so full of the joy of life that it simply oozes out of the screen so that the small, technical faults become insignificant. If some bitter, crumpled soul can’t feel that, I think it’s in the wrong site. The lighting is great, the pose is great, the perspective and vanishing point draw my eye into the picture, and all the props are carefully positioned along these lines. Yup, a definite favorite.

HOLY CRAP Rod!!!! This is some beautiful CRAP! I love the environment. The woman's pose and outfit are beautiful too - as well as the other crap she has on! Excellent lighting too! MAN! If you keep producing crap like this, I'm gonna have to whine about all the comments you are getting and then delete my gallery and start leaving negative comments on the images everyone else uploads. ; ) Now for some genuine constructive criticism: Those bumps in strategic places seem just a bit too large. I'm sure you did this to avoid poke-through. I've done that too. Suggestion: I have found that often adjusting V4's nipple size and areola perk helps to avoid poke-through while still allowing for some natural looking perkiness of the nipples. Just my two cents for what it is worth. Great work as ALWAYS buddy!!

Oh come on!! Sheesh! This is NOT crap...you wanna see crap...go to my Gallery for goodness sake. Don't mind what these people who put your (or anyone's) work down Rod. For some reason this seems to be happening allot on here lately. I've heard of three people who have gotten rude comments like this in the last month!! I have to say your art is one heck of an inspiration to me in so many ways, so please keep posting your crap and I'll keep posting mine. lol Its not saying much if the people downing others work has nothing to show in their own Gallery for themselves...so let them gloat in their own miserable comments. Look at the comments above me, see!!! YOUR A GREAT artist and those who are worth it know it!:-) Hugs!

Whooooaaaa!!, did I ever walk into a bee's nest today!! lol...your image looks great to me!!!, but I know your always striving for higher levels as most of us are, that's just your way of showing it! thekingtut quote "" She obviously has something against nudity. I was chastised by her because one of my characters was topless today. Said Gene Roddenberry wouldn't like it.""....well!!!, I have to say this critic wrong!!!, ...Roddenberry would've gone a lot further with the low tops/ skimpy mini skirts/ letting things show etc., but it had to be tamed for family network TV AT THE TIME! Which brings me to the credibility of this persons's critic on your work.....yes...you guessed...she is wrong!!!!!
