Description
This gate leads back towards Teffrey's Aqua/Viaduct and so back into Luxulyan Woods. The area can be reached not only via the valley but also by walking through a couple of meadows, which is what I did when that lump of metal laughingly called 'a car' was ensconced in a garage awaiting parts. I shall mention at this point that it broke down on purpose! It hates me. The feeling's mutual! ^=^
This ancient part of the woodland is quite strange. It's an enigma. Paths are in places fairly overgrown (which is why I arrive home with brambled hair!), and wellies are needed even in summer, as bog rules. There are also a miriad of quite wide streams and a few small waterfalls. There are long forgotten and abandoned buildings, bridges and gates; miles of dry stone walls which at one time obviously encompassed something or other, covered now with earth, thick moss and with trees, some of the latter hundreds of years old, growing over and around them; leats which are no longer managed and all in all, a general air of a woodland lost in time. Yet here and there are brand new (newish), gates!
I'm thinking this is down to the Friends of Luxulyan Valley and the Ramblers. Bless 'em! Yesterday and also today, they are out in the valley doing their bit to keep it clear and wonderful for the rest of us! However, they do have their work cut out for them in this part of the wood. The woodland and meadows adjacent to the actual valley is owned by a farmer, who is not really a happy camper! He not only removed the Bridle Way sign and threw it among the dung littering his farmyard, he has actually stopped folk who already know the walk is there from using it! When all else fails, he installs the largest bull he can find and puts him twixt walkers and the path! I carry a stick! An exceedingly long and dangerous looking stick! I also wave it around a lot and sing really loudly. It has, at least so far, been enough to keep bull - and just about all wildlife actually - including insects - aways from my person! I also carry salt lick. You'd be amazed what a bull will do for salt lick! ^=^
Aaanyway! Long story short, this is one of the gates. I can't say I am awfully enthused about the bits of barbed wire to the right side of it. If wooden slats had been in short supply, I'd have just plonked a small trunk between the post and the gate...but that's just a personal gripe of mine. I simply do not like barbed wire.
It's very humid here today! 100% I believe, especially down the valley. Too much so for Barney, so we have returned home for a while. I'll take him out again when it cools a little.
Thank you for taking the time to look. ^=^

A great ramble about your ramble, Carpathia! I thought to lounge in the sun in my garden for a change but the dreaded LEAFBLOWER noise started...outrageous! So I wmet down the road to the posh tennis club from whence it came and, luckily for him, he had just finished!
