Description

I have been off air for some time...had a lot to do....so rather than rush an illustration, my lovely wife has told me not to post another Daz or poser illustration if I am going to do it in the last 90 minutes before bed... she always says it as it is and she thinks my work looks rushed, so my friends I shall not be posting daily rushed images anymore and I hope to blow you away with my next post. In the mean time, I thought I would share a small slice of what I do through the day. I am in the greeting card industry for those that do not know and the attached image is 100 or so recent card designs... this is a slimmer format than normal and these images represent the cropped fronts of a variety of upcoming cards.... I am very lucky that I create images from v8 race cars to chocolates, flowers to puppies and now, after coming to terms with Daz... dragons and faeries are making it into our range of product. I do something different every day, it is a blessing for sure. so...while I am working on my non rushed imagery I shall just throw some colour your way with the commercial aspect of my life...sorry that you cannot zoom in very far, I am not a fan of going too low with jpeg compression. please don't feel obliged to comment I am just sharing a little more of me... be safe and well people doc c p.s. all of the flowers are from my garden!

Now you're talking - don't get me wrong but as much as I've been enjoying your amazing work I often wonder what you could produce if you gave yourself a little more time - looks like my wish is about to come true - apart from that it would give me a chance to keep up with your gallery!! Great cards btw - I'd love to see your garden....

Hi Carl, thank you for sharing part of your life but if I may be a bit critical you forgot one detail : who is the gardener? who is producing such beauties? :)) Just like Paul , I'll be expecting your next post here and the big blow with it. In the meantime, have a great time, enjoy your life, take care and say "Hello" to Mrs Carl who is so wise for me. All the best, Odile

I am really struck by the brilliant colors in your collage of cards. Its very interesting...people seem to like their greeting cards to have a real splash of color in them. Never thought of that....intriguing! Like all the above, I await with eager anticipation your "unrushed" image! :)

yeah the advice is good ,but on the other hand maybe sometimes you have to get something out of your head in a "slight rush" and then you must go and render.

ok so Im not the most experienced here.. but honestly sometimes I find that my faster renders.. (time in putting it together that is) seem to turn out to be my best.. its almost like inspiration drives me on and it all flows together nicely.. if I fuddle over this or that.. or I fuss with trying to get one aspect just perfect.. the end result usually doesnt turn out as awesome as I had hoped.. Its really interesting to see Poser images used as greeting cards.. I have been curious what different applications this could be used for in a lucrative professional setting.. Thank you for posting this Rich

Well this does answer a question....the other,as CALLAD pointed out is why 'DR'? To be continued......most likely, when you are least expecting it, an amazing picture will pop out of nowhere!

Oh, and I'm studying these flower shots so carefully. I see what you are doing. I don't know if I'm brave enough to do such bold photography but I will be trying to use some of your techniques. These are so spectacular. And I don't think you cold blow me away any more than you have with this collage.

25 years ago I had decided that I was not going to do the normal thing and shoot wedding babies and families...no sir that was not the path for this photographer..... but how was I going to survive? I had decided that I wanted to be someone who did things differently but that meant my income was in famine or feast mode.... so invent something I thought.....my other love was keeping tropical fish so I thought to myself what does this industry lack...... affordable high quality bio-filtration mediums a german company had the market cornered here in australia with a product called "noodles" I bought some, did some research, worked out the theory behind their product, designed and manufactured a superior product and then marketed it as Dr Carl's Bio Doodles..... the production and sale of these funded my bohemian career path nicely and the name Stuck...Once I got the whole career thing happening, I then stopped the doodles and got serious about my imagery..... cheers Carl

I am glad that you are slowing down and going to focus more on each piece. At first the pure excitement of creating in this media is pure infectious and it CAN be geared to those who need to big dramatic work far more rapidly than say with airbrushing. On the other hand there is a lot of technique both in 3-d and in post work that is simply time consuming, at least as far as the cd media defines time consuming. With poser, lights become more critical as does your control of the various render settings. There can be a lot more fusing with this and by extension the posing upon which the light falls and the shadow depth is created. Also, when you step up to the material room the brakes will really be applied. There you have to, especially at first, run render after render to undertand the effects of all the jigging of the nodes and dials. You have to be able to project how the nodes are gonna work even when you cannot see the result till you render. One a day is an artificial goal anyways. Do not be hard on yourself for putting it by the wayside and focusing on what really counts... quality not quantity.

Amazing collection! Nice to see all these beautiful cards together... :) And as so many artists have already said - yes, listen to your clever wife, Carl. Your rush after "upload of the day" gave sometimes more quantity than quality impression, which is pity and totally unnecessary. I'm ready to get blown away by your future posts, that will take the time they will need. Don't worry, I'm patient enough! Vashek

Wow an interesting array of your beautiful cards, I would love to do something like that as I am always creating images especially for my family and then making my own cards for them. Sometimes I add a poem or story inside the card too, which goes down really well with the younger members of the family. I love your cards, they are all fabulous, hugs Jane xx
