Description

Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden. Part of the Highline garden came about because an 81-year-old woman was being made to move by the Port of Seattle when they were expanding the airport runway system several years ago. She got a pretty powerful bunch of people with her and told the Port she would make their lives difficult if they didn't move her garden. They saw the wisdom of her proposal, and provided a 200-member team to move all the plants in her garden to a new location. This dahlia was in her section of the gardens. They also moved one of her neighbor's Japanese gardens to the site. That's the story as it was told to us by the outgoing head volunteer gardener.

This is gorgeous! I particularly love the details and the fact that you're showing us the bits of a flower that don't get as much attention! What's a pretty blossom without the right infrastructure anyway? I love the colors and the wonderful cool light; the story is an amusing one as well...for as necessary as airports are, gardens and museums and people's homes should be protected as well...and it's nice to see that protection can occur. Great shot!
