Description
Practically a flying tank, there was so much armour aboard this aircraft.Over 30,000 of these were built. Life expectancy of the aircraft was a practically unbelievable 10 hours. Until rear gunners were added this was actually true. Then the attrition rate reduced drastically. Max ceiling 6000 ft, operating height usually about 15 feet! Generally attacked in large numbers in line astern or in a large circle, hitting the soft rear parts of the German tanks. A devastatinggly effective aircraft capable of absorbing enormous punishment.

An aircraft that I knew little about. Sounds like it would have been an exciting ride in one.

All true! The Luftwaffe fighter Pilots (of experience) found that beam attacks worked best.. Great art, good job.. Rob
