Description

Captured 7/31/10, at the American Civil War Reenactment, held at the vast and beautiful El Dorado Park in beautiful Long Beach, California. Much better viewed full size. I'm not exactly sure what the chap in the top photo was doing, but I believe with that equipment he was performing some kind of metal work. I thought at first that he was a blacksmith. Maybe he was. I should have asked. The somewhat whimsical fellow in the bottom picture is the undertaker, a very easy individual to identify. When he wasn't working on the deceased, he was making caskets, as depicted here with his carpentry tools. There were also caskets in the immediate area, items I failed to photograph because I became engaged in deep conversation with the gentleman, discussing, among other things, the high percentage of amputations during the war, and forgetting about my original goal of taking pictures of everyone and everything at the reenactment. An egregious error on my part. Live and learn. And, those are just boxes and not cat caskets at the lower right of the photo. Toodles, thankx for dropping by, and for any and all complimentary comments and favs.

Kind of a metaphorical beginning and end for the soldiers. Odd, those caskets only look big enough for a cat, if that's what I'm looking at.

MrGorf is typical of the viewers that pop in once in a blue moon with silly comments.

I can't imagine all the hard work and preparation it took to hold this reenactment....and all the people involved in making it a success. Just the research alone would be mind-boggling. I am really enjoying this series, Harry.

Very excellent installment in your series! Lots more than soldiers were critical to the effort...amazing how many people are devoted to this re-enactment! Must have been really interesting for you to see the scope of it!

Very interesting shots, none the less Harry.. Wonderful.. Even better the way there is very little modern stuff around.. Excellent.. Thanks for your comment on the Mustang shot and story.. lol I couldn't 'risk' going any further with the story, much as it would have been fun... Rendo Police would have pounced... lol Rob

Both characters are very interesting but I can not get over how well the undertaker dressed for the part. Great collage Harry. Dana

Essential trades in any conflict, though one more popular than the other. These are two excellent character studies (though I'd have introduced the guy with the mountain bike to the undertaker before taking the top shot :)
