Description

Summer is leaving the Pacific Northwest. Many of the maple trees are already turning color. Where green leaves used to sway in the wind, red and golden leaves tinged with orange now decorate the branches. Long term weather forcasts a La Nina for the next two years. This means cooler, wetter weather, as cold water predominates in the eastern Pacific. To drive this home, a storm out of the Gulf of Alaska is coming on fast. Even as I walked the back yard, the grass was wet with moisture from a light sprinkle. The grey clouds were moving above me. This hummingbird was sheltering in the center of a large butterfly bush. As I focused on him, he ruffled the new feathers on his head. Some are still pinfeathers. Right after this, he was chased by another hummingbird. One Alpha Male guards the three feeding stations in the yard as if they are all his own. This one and another contest him for the nectar. Life goes on. Thank you for stopping by.
