The USS Cassin Young DD-793, is a Fletcher-class destroyer in the US Navy, named for Captain Cassin Young 1894 to 1942, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism at Pearl Harbor and killed in the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. Cassin Young DD-793 was launched September 12, 1943 by Bethlehem Steel Corp., San Pedro, California; sponsored by Mrs. C. Young and commissioned December 31, 1943. After serving in World War II, including the Battle of Leyte and the Battle of Okinawa, Cassin Young continued in active service until April 29, 1960. She is preserved today, as a museum ship, berthed at Boston Navy Yard in Boston, Massachusetts and is currently in dry dock for maintenance in the Boston Navy Yard. She has a displacement of 2,050 tons, is 376.4 feet (114.7 meters) long, 39.6 feet (12.1 meters) wide, has a draft of 13.8 feet (4.2 meters) (dept she sits in the water), a speed of 38 knots (70 km/hour), a range of 6,500 nautical miles at 15 knots (12,000 km at 28 km/hour), with a complement of 329 men. She carried five 5 inch (127 mm)/38 cal guns, ten 40 mm anti aircraft guns, seven 20 mm anti aircraft guns, and ten 21 inch (533 mm) torpedo tubes. Info from Wikipedia. Photo taken today.
