Description

One of the things I think of when I think of Texas is highways, stretched across miles and miles of open farmland. The highways then converge into a city, curl around meeting highways coming from other directions, and then stretch out again in long almost straight lines. In the cities there is the constant activity of new highways being built. There is something otherworldly about unfinished highways that loom like the broken ruins of the gods in Stephen Vincent Benét "By the Waters of Babylon". Add a strange dusk, and Pink Floyd's "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" and a surreal experience can occur. Highways are mundane structures in the usual run of things. They take you from point A to point B. They get clogged with traffic. The shortest route between any two points seems always to be under construction. But sometimes they can be very beautiful. These shots are both in or near Houston. One straight and not especially scenic, and the other rather pretty, I think. Thanks for viewing and a big thanks to those who have faved my previous posts. I hope to be more active again on rr when I return from Baton Rouge.
