Description

Not managed to get much done today, been a bit of a busy one here today. I have managed to get the Pumpkin body UVMapped now. It was originally done with a shader using spherical mapping but when I was testing textures I noticed it was streching were the segments start. So not being happy with that I went about unwrapping it in such a way that fixed this. So ensued more fun in UVEdit creating seam edges. I think from memory there are 5 seams, one running down the back of the model and 4 others unwrapping the very top and bottom. It was quite hard to get equal sizes to the polys in the map but trial and error I managed to get it unwrapped without giving too much distortion. I threw a quick texture together and cloned here and there to fix the said seams so here is a test of the pumpkin body map. I have also thrown in a wireframe of the model to give you an idea of the mesh as it stands. Poly count I think is around 81,869 so quite high, but was the only way to retain the details in the stem and vines to be honest. Going to carry on now, and work on the faces and holes for the pumpkin. Probably going to have to bollean these out as I'm not sure if I can get them clean enough working them from the mesh instead. So we should have Jack-o-Lantern versions, and one or two with holes in where mice have been having their lunch haha. Then work on a few texture variations for the set and we should all be done. Will keep you posted as I progress.. Thanks for following this, it really helps :) Mike

i have to say, the model is fantastic and i absolutely love it! but i don't think the actual pumpkin texture does it justice. the trunk (?) and leaves part is good texture-wise, but the actual pumpkin doesn't match somehow.. maybe it needs more "dirt" or color variations or something. maybe part of it is the shader thing, that makes it too dark in the bottom and too "render-like". i hope i'm not offending, i just think it's such a beautiful model, and taking that extra step with the texture will make it really outstanding. :)

A_ is right, its a beautiful model! Don´t know, if bolean has more features now, since I am using Cinema 8.5 but it was unusable for models that have to look good outside of Cinema. You could try, to delete the unnecessary facets, pushing the vertices around till you get your desired results, it cost much more time, but if I see what you have done so far, I think you are a really patient person.
