Description

Allright.. here's the deal.. Yesterday I decided to go back towards my roots in a sense.. My first staggering steps in visual arts was in photography a little ober 15 years ago.. back then I mainly did black and white photography and played around in darkrooms and the likes. I had a blast. But then I found Photoshop which ever since have been my big "love"... Anyway.. Yesterday I ordered a new camera.. going digital this time since I have no room to set up a proper darkroom at my house, but since the main purpose is postproduction in photoshop anyway it doesn't really matter.. But.. My camera won't arrive for a few more days and people who know me also know that I'm known for being quite impatient.. so.. I went to deviant art to look for some nice stock photos that I could play around with.. so here are the results.. just minor enhancements, but I personally think they make quite a difference :) This stock is from Reiko http://reiko-stocks.deviantart.com/

The sharpening/contrast/gamma adjust from the image on the left is excellent. A much crisper and eye-pleasing image to my taste.

Your Post craft actually makes a profound difference. The reason why this is so hinges upon your attention to detail and your skill at discerning and applying subtle adjustments. A general perception of Post work is that we can use it to either add things which are not within the original image or hide flaws or inadequacies. While it is possible to accomplish both of these aims there is a finer craft to Post which should be a practiced skill of any photographer. If I read your words correctly, you already equate Photoshop to a darkroom.  In my eyes this is the reason why your post craft is so exceptional. As with lab work on film, Post work on digital media allows us to refine what is already present within a photograph. We are not adding but enhancing. Were we to look at the original image above on its own we might accept and appreciate it as is.  We can no longer do that having seen the possibilities you have brought out of the original. The differences are subtle but dynamic. It actually appears as if we had wiped the monitor free of dust.  Yet it is a gentle hand that you employed in this refinement. A giveway that this subtle touch is a manner of your craft is the addition of the hairline border.   :-) As fine a line as it is it makes a significant difference to the eye of the beholder even on an unconscious level. May your camera arrive at any moment! .. although I am happy it was delayed long enough for you to produce this instructive work. With warm regard, Terry

Jenni.....a photographer first! this makes sense the basic skills of light colour and composition apply to all design so to come from that background explains why your imagery is so complete - add to that your creativity and all of what Terry just said and this is why you create the stunning images that you do. Nice to read this about you and I look fwd to maybe seeing some Sjoberg photography in here as well... cheers mate Carl
