Description


The reformer Raja Rammohun Roy died at Bristol on 27th september 1833 and was first buried at Stapleton but was reinterred in 1843 in the newly laid out Arnos Vale cemetery under the mausoleum which is a copy of a Bengali tomb or Chattri which Literally means umbrella. A commemoration is held every year at the chattri attended by Unitarians,Bristols lord Mayor and the Indian High Commissioner plus Indian and British people who wish to remember the work of the "Founder of Modern India"

What a beautiful mausoleum and capture! Wonderful detail and color. Very interesting information. I was curious about the Unitarian connection and looked him up on wikipedia and the Unitarian Universalist Association's website. Very interesting history. I'm glad his work for social reform is remembered.
