Description

Ysterplaat was visited by various USAF aircraft of which the C-17 was one. I was amazed that it managed to land in less than 600m! You can see that the engine cowlings are open to help reverse thrust. The aircraft is powered by four, fully reversible, military versions of the engines currently used on the Boeing 757. The thrust reversers direct the flow of air upward and forward to avoid ingestion of dust and debris. Papa might have been a rolling stone - this one was not! Have a good week, Clive PS: the lens does make the houses look a lot closer than they are - there is even a railway line and dual 4 lane national road between them and the plane!

Yay, Douglas! Boeing only acquired this when they merged with McDonnell Douglas and Douglas had essentially finished fixing the myriad problems the early production versions presented costing McDonnell Douglas a fortune. This is the last aircraft type produced at the Long Beach plant.
