Description
After a brief interlude with the serenity of nature, back to the mid Nineteenth century for a bit of excitement.
Captured 7/31/10, at the American Civil War Reenactment, held at the vast and beautiful El Dorado Park in beautiful Long Beach, California.

Harry, for some reason you've captured more personality on the faces of these "boys" than I've noticed in past pictures of troops...probably I am just waking up to what you are showing us...better late than never on my part:-) I find myself looking at all the details of the uniforms to include canteens, pistol/sword belts, ammunition pouches, rifles, bayonets, belt buckles, etc. and then remembering these are all guys that live in 2010, not 1863. They drive cars, they watch television, they have cell phones...but here they are up to their eyeballs immersed in living history. This is an excellent series...

I know that I have mentioned the varied uniforms of the Confederate troups but have you noticed that those "nasty" bayonets all look the same. Bill is right - a fantastic series (so far) and an education at the same time. Dana

I find the lovely pastel oolours in your photos interestingly at odds with the function of war, even though it's only a replay.
