Description

This is for my friends who are JUST PLANE NUTS!! LOL! You know who you are ... :P I have no idea what kind of plane this is, and couldn't care less. It's at the Boeing museum, I do know that. For me, this is all about the abstract composition, and plane-ness is totally secondary. However, I DO love you guys, and like to post something at least pseudo-aviation once in a while. :D If any of you want to try to identify the plane, please feel free to talk amongst yourselves and make all the guesses you like. I'm no help!

I have no idea, and imagine that, I thought it was a boat at first. lol It makes a wonderful image, though.

Had a hunch, and just had to go digging for the answer: It's a Gee Bee Z racer. The low wing & support wires really got my curiousity fired up. Great abstract! The Gee Bee's are always colourful, and are certainly unique!

No clues from me, but I'll bet there are a few guys who could every single thing. I just like the lines and colors!!

Great colors and abstractness:),...higlighted by the swooping red stripe and diagonal, taut flying wires. I agree with Tamarrion...found that this airplane is a replica built to fly safer than the original hotrod version (that was a huge radial engine with barely enough wing and fuselage to make it fly). This replica was built in 1978 and appeared in the 1991 movie "Rocketeer". The original was built to win the 1931 Thompson Trophy Race at the National Air Races in Cleveland, Ohio. The original was amazingly fast but incredibly dangerous...flying above 280mph at 150 feet above the ground the right wing failed causing it to crash in a massive fireball. Such were the days of early aircraft engineering...

No pressure just a lovely play with colors and you got it so well. Like the dome (cockpit glass?) as breaks up the riveted straight lines.

Whew! Glad Bill says it is a replica! That canopy might be functional - doe not inspire my trust much though! As always a great tight crop! Clive

I love the way you do this. We're all used to checking the overall appearance of a plane then looking closer. You come at it from the opposite angle, and what a difference.Forced to see the lines and rivets and then to wonder what it is.A brilliant approach that lifts the image above the average aircraft shot......you've even got me TALKING 'plain nuts' :-) It's cool.

I'm with all you non-plane nuts. It's all about the composition and colour for me, and you got it here in spades. Wonderful!

This was funny - from the thumbnail I thought it was a banana on a plate but couldn't get the weird white lines to add up. Then I looked at the photo and got at good laugh at myself! A different artistic eye for shape and color. Good going! Thanks! :)
