Description
Day by day, year after year, century upon century, our sun grows ever hotter. This has nothing to do with the current global warming hysteria. It has everything to do with the solar hydrogen reserves. As the sun uses up hydrogen from nuclear fusion, it begins to consume helium reserves and so on, up through heavier elements.
The fusion of heavier elements generates greater heat. Stars, like people, have life spans. Our star, the sun, is entering middle age. The time will come when life on our planet is no longer possible. This is far, far into the future; it is presently of no concern to us. Today’s offering, “Metropolis” envisions a time, millennia in the future, when technology, on a level of advancement we today would perceive as magic, still manages a tenuous outpost of survival, as humanity spreads out among the stars looking for new places to live.
I do not see this as a grim future at all. I see it as an opportunity for new frontiers. The outcome depends entirely on the indomitable human spirit (in which I have great faith). Today’s offering is intended to depict triumph, not defeat. I hope you like it.

Awesome work!! The image by itself is a treasure, but accompanied with your writtings it is that much more impressive. I hope humanity can someday work together to tackle challenges such as this. If such was required today I am afraid that the outcome would be bleak. Our governments are far too worried about fighting stupid wars and not trusting anyone else to ever collaberate on such a major challange. Perhaps one day in the future people will realize that rather than killing each other over religious differences they can instead enjoy much better lives by embracing each other.
