Thanks to all those that helped to ID last nights posting.
Typha latifolia (Cat-o'-nine-tails, Broadleaf Cattail or Common Cattail) is a perennial herbaceous plant, which grows in temperate, subtropical and tropical areas throughout the Northern Hemisphere. It grows in marshy areas and flowers in mid to late summer. The recent wind and rain has ripped some open. Wikipedia.

Great capture! I remember getting these to make torches out of them. We used to find them on the south shore of Long Island when I was a kid. :)

Con quest'erba ( biodolo ) esisteva una volta la produzione di stuoie e rivestimenti di sedie. Lo stelo viene inoltre utilizzato in composzizioni floreali ( fiori secchi ). With this herb (Biodola) existed when the production of mats and coverings for seats. The stem is also used in composzizioni flowers (dried flowers). Beautiful capture , Dana !

I thought by the title you were going to show some poor sailor on board Old Ironsides getting whipped for violating ship's rules, Dana. In any case, very good clarity and color in this foto of a not very pretty plant, at least not in this particular condition.
