Description

this is one of my other passions....gardening it was a swimming pool once but my kid's safety was far more important....... do you know the very week we decided to empty the pool three children under 5 drowned in home swimming pools in our state alone... we knew we had done the right thing.... it went from being something that could take our children's life to something that we eat from daily, my girl, now three, knows the names of all of the plants I grow and eats most of them raw..... I live 15 minutes from the coast and 5 minutes from a swimming pool, my girls will learn to swim, in a safe and controlled environment. like Mucho many friends have questioned the logic of this decision... for me there was no doubt we did the right thing..... While I am here, I apologise for the facebook-ish style post this time round but I care about many of you as friends and I just wanted to share a little more of my life. cheers people my deck is nearly finished so more renders soon.

we idiots build a swimming-pool in luxembourg at the time +-1993-1994 and considering the weather we would better have done a pond or something like this. with something like this i mean this fantastic arrangement.looks very nice to the both of us ute and me.

What a creative solution! Nothings better then eating fresh veggies from your own garden. Nice to see that your little girl is so interested and likes to help you. Very nice that you've shared this with us. Hope you and your family will have a great weekend. Hugs :)

I've been waiting for this pic, Carl... My first thought after seeing your vegetable garden was "But it's a swimming pool!" Though, after reading your explanation I have to admit it's such a clever and practical solution. And you don't have to deal with the grass that's constantly growing from the lawn into the vegetable garden as it does in my case! :) Lovely pic, I especially like how your daughter is rooting for her hard working dad, lol... My parents always had a veggie garden and I credit that with the fact that none of us were ever picky eaters. We always had a bunch of wholesome food to eat. Great garden - it's so neat - nothing like that taste of something grown at home. :)

Dear Carl; I believe your decision was perfect, I have two daughters 6 and 10 years. When they were younger, I was very worried about the pool and beach ...until today I am always close to them. I loved her garden, is a mini-farm with no doubt! Have a great weekend! Hugs:)

Well, well ! I must show this picture to my husband , he's going to turn yellow with envy ! We never passed the parsley, coriander, basil, mint stage ! Lol! And it's nice to have such a fantastic cauliflower !! And you are so right about swimming pool and young children . When my kids were young I was very cautious . Now It's my 5 year old grandson I worry about but he has already started having his swimming lessons in a controlled environement. It's funny how a garden-in-a-pool picture leads to confidences . Have a great week end ! GrandMa Odile

We've had 3 children in the past 3 weeks drown in their backyard pool. I would love to have a swimming pool but with all my animals and all my grandkids, I think it makes more sense to buy a blow-up pool and turn the yard into gardens. Beautiful job you've done on this garden and the photos are wonderful.

That has to be the biggest flower pot ever! Thanks for sharing a little slice of your domestic bliss. My dad always kept a vegetable garden....your children will, I am sure, always remember their dad as I do mine being a fabulous gardener!

When it comes to the safety of your children you do what is best! You are also giving your child a beautiful opportunity to learn about agriculture first hand! Nice post!

They look WONDERFUL!:-) On the issue of children drowning in a pool...very reason I never got one. Allot of good it did me, my 15 year old got tired of my reasons and rules and now lives with dad who has no rules and yes a huge pool. Stick to your guns no matter what the kids say when they are older...one day they will see you were right. Probably after something terrible happens...but sadly I've been told its how some learn. I miss my son like no tomorrow. Just pray my 13 year old daughter takes a different path.

What a lovely garden. You must spend a ton of time with it. Thanks for sharing. I love the 'helping dad' picture. Too cute. This is a must zoom for sure to read all the plant names.
