Description

Squint slightly: doesn't this handrail vaguely resemble the heating element in an oven? No, you say? Then perhaps you should try putting your hand on it as you climb up the stairs, away from the Crown Fountain in Chicago's Millennium Park. On the day Chip and I were making pictures in the park, it was about 95 degrees F. in the shade; seeing as how this railing was obviously not in the shade, it was about as hot to the touch as the oven setting for London Broil. Well, it certainly looks cool, anyway. This picture was made in August, 2010 in the swanky heart of Chicago.

It does resemble the heating element in an electric oven. The fountain cools it down however. Great shot Corey. I like the composition.

I like this a lot, and it's funny that we're watching CSI with all sorts of cool "Coroner Cam" shots that are likely putting you off of your tuna casserole. Oh well! This is a cool shot, background entertainment notwithstanding. It does remind me of a heating element; a brand new, unused heating element, just installed by NASA technicians in those white suits in a clean room. I love the lines and the light, especially the contrast between the buffed metal railing and the matte "finish" of the faux-limestone concrete. I remember that day too. It was sweltering. This is a good shot of that day, the perfect capture. Great work...as always.

Yup ... I see the element! And I notice nobody is touching it. Yikes! I'm thinking standing in the water in the shade is a good bet. Wonderful capture, redolent of hot summer days in the city!

Well seen, Corey! Being America, will someone sue if they get a hot hand, I wonder?

Yes, I can definitely see your point. I like the sharpness and sterility in this picture's foreground, contrasting heavily with the chaos of people, who are rather indistinct and fuzzy. Excellent capture!

It does look cool! I'll admit (even though I live in San Antonio) burning hands were not the first thing I thought of when I saw it. My thoughts were much more abstract. I thought of lines and angles and how much I like the ones shown here. I had shrunk the picture so I could see it all in one go and my eyes traveled down the railing to the feverish activity in the distance. This is a wonderful combination of lines, angles, and human activity, with some absolutely marvelous shadows. I like the running child, the woman with her hands on her waist looking out of frame (I like that the recipient of that pose is unknown), and the mother and child at the stairs. There is a lot to look at here. It is like an illustration in a childrens book (that's a definitey good thing), and it all begins with the excellent lines and angles of the rail. I like this a lot!

Equal what it is: It looks very fine, and the POV is great, so you created a special effect (I cannot describe better) 5+
