Description

This was during the period of 12-hour days at a certain Polish cultural institution/theater that shall remain nameless. We’ll get to that long and sometimes amusing story later. Occasionally I’d be so buzzed on caffeine and adrenaline that I’d walk the whole two miles home, just to decompress. It was on one such night in the summer of 2007 that I came across this confluence of neon reflecting in the passenger window of a Saab convertible. Having just emerged from a mile-and-a-half of dark residential streets, the business-district neon seemed particularly garish and undeniably alive. It also let me know that I was only a few blocks from home, and from the sleep I so desperately needed. This photograph was made on Lawrence Avenue, just east of Pulaski Road in the Albany Park area of Chicago on August 28th of 2007.

Two of those shirts are now in Prague! Yeah, I wore work shirts in central Europe and that was kinda cool! I think Pavl has one of them now! Pavl has a lot of my stuff! But anyway, enough about loopy Czech guys: this is a great photo. It's got an odd sort of Blade Runner vibe to it, only without Harrison Ford. Neon is always a wonderful photographic subject and harder to capture than you'd think. Oh, and speaking of that place...Marta and Marissa say hi, but they're not there either. This is a great shot.

Oh, wow, I love this, Corey--everything about it. Just screams with city life, lights, and those caffeine fueled times you speak of. I've been wandering around the pier two nights a week with my camera while my sister goes to the gym and caffeine plays a big part!! Anyway, cool shot!!

I just love this sort of shot! This one makes me want to explore the place in the background.

Fantastic image! I love the reflections ... so perfect and clean ... excellent picture! It's a little early for tacos here, but I like the look of the restaurant. This is too cool.

Not too unlike Bloor Street between Spadina and Bathurst. All the colours of the rainbow in their fallen quantum state glory - and pizza, lots of pizza. To the north and south, blocks of softly lit residential streets laced with old and very mature trees dating back to the early 1900's. But you are right, neon light signals liveliness as such lighting is expensive and not maintained when business is bad.

Nice impromptu image. You really capture urban environments really well.

Great shot Corey - I'm with Chip looks like a scene from Bladerunner - really captures the shock value of neon
