Description

Happy Birthday, Marilyn! It’s funny, I’d originally made this picture for you, but then that hospital stuff got in the way and so I’m posting it now. It’s kinda cool that I get to post it as a birthday greeting. I originally found this 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 426 Hemi convertible (take a breath) near my apartment, last summer. Lawrence Avenue had been closed to traffic as Hollywood had decided to film a movie here. A festival or sorts has bloomed along the cordoned-off thoroughfare: there were trucks, arc lights, PanaVision cameras, miles of cable, and an army of film-industry tech types running around with walkie-talkies, clipboards and well-laden prop carts. This Dodge was one of the larger props. It was parked on the sidewalk outside of a restaurant that usually serves Mexican food, but had been converted (at least visually) into a Chinese flavored eatery, complete with paper lanterns and Chinese graffiti on the walls. (As a movie set-dressing, it was one-use, peel-and-stick graffiti.) Before the set was closed off, locals wandered around making photos of everything with their cell phones and digital cameras. I was no exception. When I asked the giant Teamster guarding the car what the name of the movie was. He smiled, rather evasively, and said, “Today, it’s called Cheaters but you never know with a Ron Howard film. Tomorrow it’ll probably be something else.” The only other things I was able to find out about the film were that it is an action/adventure comedy and it stars Vince Vaughn. From one car person to another, I hope you enjoy this. Happy Birthday!

How fitting that your 180th image is also a birthday dedication to one of the coolest people on Renderosity! There's something particularly synchronistic about that! I am not a car person at all, but this is most definitely a sweet shot. I love the fact that those hood vent thingies and the front grille actually form something of a face. Great color! How many movies were they filming here last summer? Transformers 3 transformed bits of downtown into...well...bits of downtown with fake debris. This is a great shot, and a perfect birthday dedication. Way to go!

I'm not a car person, but I know a lot of guys at the carwash who would be respectfuly circling this car. It might disrupt the work day a bit. My main requirements are, airconditioning, low gas miliage, no needed repairs, an MP3 player, and airconditioning, but this definitely has style! And a great shine! Excellent capture and dedication! Happy Birthday Marilyn!

Even I think that this is a great vehicle! Years ago,the brakes failing on one of these at the crossing on which I live caused a 4 car accident (in which no-one was badly hurt). I took several pics of the aftermath. My old mother, on looking at the prints, asked "who it that nosey old bat in this photo?" It was her, of course!

Oh gosh, I remember this car well! Even as a neutral-car person, I appreciated (and still do) the lines of this amazing vehicle. It looks good from every angle, and this one is classic! I know how happy you would have been making this picture to begin with. How fun to be able to use it for a birthday dedi! Happy Birthday, Marilyn!
