My corporeal form lives with my wonderful wife and six eccentric cats in beautiful Sedgefield, but my dreaming body is frequently elsewhere, exploring the fractal universe and marveling at nature's chaos. I love traveling to places that exist only as mathematical constructs on my computer and bringing back snapshots that sometimes remind me of the real world (whatever that means), sometimes of metamagical worlds we can visit only in our imaginations. I trained as a biologist and run a small company specialising in science publishing - writing, editing, illustrating and typesetting. For 3D world building I use Vue, Daz Studio and Poser, but I've also used Bryce since version 2 and done some work with Terragen, Carrara and Groboto. For technical illustration I use mainly Illustrator and Photoshop.
Thanks for visiting my little corner of Renderosity, and to everyone who has kindly commented on my images or added my works as a favourite, thank you for that too. Craig.

Thanks for all the great news. Glad to hear that your father-in-law is in the safe zone now. How great that your band had a good show. Love your scene work. The lighting is super. I especially like the way the fog is lifting in the background. Super work and super news. Have a good one.

the fact that I skipped a few images says nothing about the images: Only that, when I write such long comments, I can't do everything I've missed, at least not the first time around. (I hope I can get back for the others.) But I end tonight with this, because it's the natural conclusion to the last image. I again hope your father-in-law will heal fully and feel his old energies return. Re the image: Pieces like this are about---to some degree---differing layers of light & haze & atmospheric decay. Decay in the sense of how objects dissolve in atmosphere as one goes further back (something the Renaissance masters insisted artists start to learn; and which the Oriental masters had learned centuries earlier.) In photography, it would be an effort to capture pronounced foreground with increasingly more dissolved background: So you have layered grays and desaturated blues, etc, as each layer of ground & mountain goes back in space. With white clouds sweeping into the peak-lines. Layer over layer (with the final dissolution in the back-most mountains. All very well done.) Then, as photographers would also try to capture, you've bridged background & foreground with highly defined birds. Because, while they're in silhouette (mostly), their presence is commanding: They're the sharp presences that pull fore & background together. And they're in flight, which bodes well & healingly for your father-in-law. Again, the Oriental masters (from the Tang, Song & Yuan Dynasties) explored this kind of fog-covered landscape constantly; and they added remarkable detail via houses, walkers, streams, etc, right in the midst of the haze: You have something in common with them. Well, I regret to leave your gallery for now, but I hope to be back sooner than before. And it's a pleasure to be here once more and see the fineness of your mind & heart, as they assemble & 'paint' these beautiful scenes. And once more, I wish great healing to your father in law. You did 2 fine pieces for him. (I saw the others---and "Rite of Strings" made me smile alot because I studied "The Rite of Spring" years back. Even Stravinsky would approve!) Besides, I love to hear about your musical adventures. I've been there, and know what it's like...More highly sensitive work, Craig. I hope to be back soon!
