Eight Colors Crying:
Eastern Europe, 1944
Hi Folks! Here is Number 8:
Genocide has been committed throughout history. But it can easily be said that no other nation ever matched the Third Reich for the sheer, detailed, and systematic efficiency that typified its cruel application of the policy.
Thus is presented, for sober reflection, a list of various color-coded badges Nazi concentration camp occupants were made to wear on their respective uniforms:
- Green Triangle: kapos (inmates with limited responsibility for other prisoners).
- Red Triangle: communists, anarchists, trade unionists, freemasons, liberals.
- Blue Triangle: “foreigners” assigned to forced labor crews.
- Brown Triangle: gypsies (also known as Roma).
- Purple Triangle: “Bible Students” (Jehovah’s Witnesses).
- Black Triangle: “asocials” (alcoholics, prostitutes, vagrants, the mentally ill).
- Pink Triangle: sexual offenders (pedophiles, rapists), and gay men as well.
- Yellow Triangle: people with full or partial Jewish ancestry.
Two triangles were overlapped and sewed together; one pointing up, the other pointing down, in a stark, perverted reference to the Magen David.
Perhaps some believe that in the last 50 years a few nations have matched the Nazis in cruelty. Hopefully, none ever will again, or gather the will to try. But we humans have proven many times to be very poor students of history.
