According to the latest figures it is believed that nearly 80% of Iraqis who have died during the war were civilians. Shameful http://www.iraqbodycount.org/

Bush and his goons had perfectly valid intelligence. Intelligence which they "cherry-picked", falsified, or flat-out ignored. The run-up to this war was a criminal farce. And...for WHAT? IF you cast the losses aside...show me what we gained.

Wars are never won killing people, even a lot are killed. Hitler killed millions and lost the war, American military killed other millions and lost all the wars, (who killed more?). Only in Vietnam war 2 or 3 millions were killed where 80% or 90% were not commies or vietkongs, they were simple civilians. With Iraq and Afghanistan was the same thing, few terrorists or Taleban killed and a huge number of innocent civilians (an easy target), the number never will be known, it doesn't matter, if someone is killed he was a terrorist and end of story. Sadly the story is not over and Obama, the Nobel Peace Prize, is nothing more than the continuation of Bush's work and expanding it to other countries, this time with a beautiful speech, but the same slaughter.

@dol: thank you for the time line. You can find a lot of details and summary about some of the coups in the book: "The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism" by Naomi Klein. Unfortunately Germany is within (in Afghanistan, not Iraq) the military empire business again.

What I want to know is what proportion of this death figure is Iraqi's blowing up other Iraqi's? Or are there separate stats for this? By news reports it seems that it would be something like... % of total Iraqi deaths by Iraqis blowing up eachother 80% (75% being civilians) % of Total Iraqi deaths by UN/American forces 20% Would love to know.

who can prove that they were "civilians" or rebels?what is the difference? when rebels takes shelter behind children/and or "civilians" and are killing the liberating force, stand there in the same position and decide if you will hold fire or not . I was not in the military even though I tried to enlist, but I can imagine is how hard it is for any soldier to determine who the enemy is, when they pretend to be "civilians" and look the same example the civil war of the USA Iraq,Iran, Afghanistan, is nothing new. just look at the carnage in Africa.at least if one can believe any thing the press reports
