Description
Had some more time to play with the Vue 9 pre-release. This time I played with the new terrain fractals. There are two which are called Rocky Mountain 1 and 2. Each has many parameters and it takes a bit of fiddling to get a feel for what they do. I think that I will use these quite often. There is a lot of potential there.
Here is an example. A 20km*20km procedural terrain driven by just the Rocky Mountain 2 fractal. Nothing else. The textures and ecosystem are controlled via the "rough area" output of the fractal. This also illustrates the improvements in the dynamic ecosystem handling. The ecosystem has 460 billion polygons and memory use went only up to 3Gb. Vue 8 was far more demanding under the same circumstances.
Another nifty feature I discovered is that you can now easily add to a terrain inside the terrain editor. You just choose in which direction you want to expand and by how much. Vue 9 does the rest. You can even add your original area as a zone.
