Description

I have always believed that an image should speak for itself. I've heard that Renderosity is asking that comments in this gallery be image-focused. In any other gallery I'd agree. But in a gallery called World Events/Social Commentary, I Respectfully disagree. In this ONE place, I think debate ought to be fully allowed. After all, no one is required to view here, and those who do usually have opinions. Often strong ones. There are plenty of art-focused galleries. What's wrong with ONE gallery, where the focus is on debate and discourse? Mixed media: Photo and Carrara 5.1 PRO.

The image is quite amazing, and thought provoking. Where did you find that?

I agree. Shame that people have to run off to and report certain comments to Renderosity staff like some spoilt child. Some of the images in this thread are pretty crap and have very little artistic merit but there are a few that can raise questions and start debates. (Although it is hard to debate when we are only allowed one response and the 'artist' can write many. And sometimes does! ;) ) I for one have been told that I can 'f**k myself' that I am a 'failed artist' that I 'produce shit' (the list goes on...) but I'm big enough and man enough to take these comments with a pinch of salt, so to speak, and generally laugh them off. Sorry about the long response intro.... Regards.

I can interpret this in different ways - from both sides of the fence, so to speak. A powerful statement either way. What need is there to debate when an image can say it all?

Are you wanting to post in a gallery or a forum?

@chuter I submit that THIS ONE GALLERY should be both. Why not?

@turner I think the best definition of "long" would refer to responses other than yours.

@kmoffat I created it with a composite of a photo (the fence)used as a light gel in Carrara (so as to appear as a shadow, which on closer exam...it isn't) and projecting that light behind a transparent plane which was textured with the flag. Most of the difficulty was in getting the light angle to project the "barbs" and "chain link" to align with the "stars" and "stripes" respectively in the flag. Carrara's camera was then set to wide angle and panned in close...Bing.
