Description

Hi friends, thanks for your nice comments for my last pic and a special THANK YOU for those who took my last one as their favorite... Meanwhile the last computer problems are gone - and we humans are much more intelligent as our computers ALL TIMES at last (-or not? Huuhhh...) I was very busy in the last weeks and countless pics for a whole new series were taken in the last nights, but I will not talk too much... Back to my last pic: Here this neighbourhood again, only a street scene, nothing special, but typical. This quarter is called "Friedrichshain". It is an old quarter of the working class, as it was typical 100 years ago, when Berlin exploded in the "industrial Revolution" as so many other cities on our planet. Horse-powered wagons were replaced by cars meanwhile, the trees are much bigger now, and gas lanterns in side streets are normal - till today! Scenes like this could happen at several places in Berlin..... The houses were built between 1880 and 1910 and had normally one, two or three backyards, often with small manufactories inside. Untypical for Berlin, Friedrichshain has a lot of this old houses; the damages of World War II were not so great and many of this old houses survived.... After WW II Friedrichshain became part of East Berlin, and many of the houses were in a very bad condition at the end of the communistic system and needed a lot of repairs. They were dark, dirty and shabby. In 1990, after fall of the Berlin wall, the whole quarter should be teared down completely and replaced by new, very expensive and stereotype sorts of houses, clean and faceless as so many others..... This was when young people occupied many of these houses as their homes in this streets here. The police tried to clear the situation after a few months: 3000 policemen needed 3 days and nights, and the result were the most heavy riots in Berlin after World War II, and our mayor lost his job, as our senates coalition broke up. After this all the young people got a normal treatment and are now owners of these occupied houses. Many paintings and symbols on the housewall remains at this time of street fighting and youth heroism... Hope you like this pic. Thanks for spending your time here. All sorts of comments are welcome and helpful. Thanks, friends, and have a nice weekend. Maybe I am able to visit Koeln (Cologne) at the Rhein tomorrow and have a look inside the dome. Maybe I could take a picture of the Holy Three King`s shrine... Bye till tomorrow evening. billcody
