Alliance Armored Cruiser Diagram
An Orion’s Arm future history project image.
In context of my future history the combat vehicle described sees action during the System States War, at around the +750 year mark on my future history timeline.

Definition of System States War sides and allegiances:
Consortium Moons
The Consortium of Moons (commonly shortened to Consortium Moons) describes a constitutionally limited Republic among the moons of Saturn, comprised of independent space habitats, each being a city-state under individual self rule in terms of internal civil matters and acting in unison under specifically defined treaty agreement in regards to external security.
System States
The Consortium of Moons is a member of the System States which are a union of treaty in regards to policing and security of commerce and trade.
Members of the System States are the Consortium Moons, the Jovan Association (which includes most large habitats in and among the asteroid belt – the exception being mining sites established by the Earth Alliance) and the Mars Republic.
Mars Republic
Mars Republic describes the constitutionally limited form of government established by the Martian settlers.
Earth Alliance
The Earth Alliance is a global socialist state established by force after hundreds of years of warring among the lesser criminal empires which in turn arose after the self-destruction of present day industrial/technological civilization at the hands of an intentionally fomented irrationality, mob tribalism, and predatory activism aimed to take down the bases of scientific industrial based commerce and trade – the end of present day civilization signaled an end of abundance and the dawn of a dark ages which extended over three-hundred years in duration.
System States War
The System States War describes a conflict between the System States and the Earth Alliance, precipitated by an incursion of Earth Alliance armed forces on Mars seizing by force territories on the surface of Mars and claiming these as a possession of Earth.
All models are my own Bryce creations, created in Bryce 6.3 and rendered in Bryce 7 Pro.

Just remember bending science is what invention is all about, so it goes that science fiction is about bending the rules a bit to find the true path. To say we know something today is to really tell a whopper as we are but children in the scope of time. I have no doubt in my mind we will find a way around or just find we were just wrong about the speed of light being the fastest we can travel and we will explore the whole universe, but what we will find will be more than we could ever imagine and less than we can ever believe. I love how you have taken ideas from the early work in space travel for your images and writing. It was a grand scheme to take the destructive power of the bomb and turn it towards productive use in space travel, maybe some day it will happen.

gmvgmvgmv Higher resolution renders and large format flat panel displays bring the artist up against a wall in terms of the allowed image file size here on Rendo -- compression gives rise to visual artifacts forcing one to compromise between scale and clarity of resolution -- it is a difficulty for all who are pushing at that limit. Perhaps soon Rendo will make changes to allow larger file sizes -- we can only hope.

pdq1234 I would disagree that invention is the result of “bending science.” The best and briefest identification of man’s power in regard to nature is Francis Bacon’s “Nature, to be commanded, must be obeyed.” In this context, “to be commanded” means to be made to serve man’s purposes; “to be obeyed” means that they cannot be served unless man discovers the properties of natural elements and uses them accordingly. The genera I work in as an author/artist is Hard SF, which is science fiction constrained within the framework of natural laws as recognized by science. I would disagree with your perception of knowledge. “Knowledge” is . . . a mental grasp of facts of reality, reached either by perceptual observation or by a process of reason based on perceptual observation. Man indeed possesses knowledge. The arbitrary measurement you add is somewhat vague and perhaps meaningless. We do not yet know the extent of what we do not yet know. Correspondingly – there is no “lie” (or whopper, as you put it) being told by anyone, except perhaps the mystics. Science is a matter of precise observation, measurement, and valid mathematics. As our range of observation increases, so does our knowledge, as our means of measurement grow more precise, so is our science improved. In regards to your speculation about light speed – At this juncture it is not relevant to the subject of my work – which exclusively concerns interplanetary and not interstellar spaceflight, all locations being constrained within our local solar system, and, correspondingly, all spacecraft I depict are sub-relativistic. With that caveat: crossing the 92%c threshold results in, as direct consequence, extreme (deal-killing really, by any rational measure) mass-energy expenditure. I am unaware of any validated science which illustrates a way around this fact.

1358, You have not read any part of any particular “story” authored by me at all. My future history timeline, as presented here, on Renderosity, is a graphical representation of my future history, a kind of visual notebook. The actual stories, which take place within the context of this history, are not in print – so in fact, you have not read them. As a general theme the idea of man extending civilization out into the solar system has been tackled by numerous authors. In specific context, the framework of my future historical timeline is unique.
