Description
Saturn IV: Dione Outback
This is an Orion’s Arm future history project image.
Surface colony and commercial spaceport.
I composed this image to feature my newest Orion’s Arm spacecraft model, the Hercules VTOL Cargo Lifter (Specification Image currently in production). The Hercules Cargo Lifter is a near-space short range transport designed for orbital cargo operations, three are visible in the image: one top-left, with engines in horizontal-flight mode, showing a three-quarters ventral profile, one just above the horizon and left of center, with engines flaring, in vertical descent/ascent mode, and one positioned on one of the elevated launch pads, foreground-left.
The Hercules VTOL Cargo Lifter design owes a certain debt of inspiration to the iconic Eagle Transporter of the 1970s television series Space: 1999. The Eagle was designed by Brian Johnson (who credits his inspiration as the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey).
While Space 1999 suffered across the board from its lack of viable science and abysmal scripts – Brian Johnson’s Eagle was a rational well thought-out design, and I acknowledge, and hopefully do credit, his excellent, inspired, and creative design work here.
Additional Credit:
Paul Llyod for permission to use his nuclear Bryce Lander in my images (two are positioned on one of the elevated launch pads foreground-left), Pete for his Bryce Supply Platform, rj001 for his Moon-Rover (center-distance, moving along the crater rim), and NASA for the launch pad complex and space suits.
As always, thank you for your comments and encouragement.

Yes, very eagle-like. Great design. (1999: First season wasn't all that horrible - second season... but cool looking ships and stuff throughout)
