Description

This is partially the same area as the last image of my collage that I posted yesterday. You can see Coney Island in the distance and a bit more of Brooklyn, including Dyker Beach Park. I played around with filters and like the drawn effect of this one. “Assembled from eight pieces of land over the course of forty years, Dyker Beach Park has developed into a lively park that serves the varied needs of its diverse community. As one of the two Brooklyn City parks with a golf course, Dyker Beach Park is a popular destination for those wishing to hit the links. Soon, younger golf fans will get their own course, a first for the city. The future CityParks Junior Golf Center, a kids-only six-hole course, driving range, and practice facility with free golf instruction, is expected to open this spring. Meanwhile, dog lovers, disciplined athletes, casual bicyclists, playful children, and observant naturalists continue to share a love and enjoyment of their neighborhood park.” New York City Department of Parks and Recreation site http://www.nycgovparks.org/parks/DykerBeachPark This title came from a little park fact from the same site: “The female horseshoe crabs that arrive on Dyker Beach every May and June lay up to 20,000 tiny olive green eggs in a hole for the male horseshoe crabs to fertilize.” Magik, you will notice a LOT of baseball fields! Thanks for viewing, comments and favs!

Another superb aerial photo taken of the New York coastline area to add to your already sumptuous portfolio of such images, Lucinda. If they're anything like the human species, I assume the male horseshoe crabs will be completely exhausted after fertilizing 20,000 tiny olive green eggs. And, I would think also that the eggs would be feast and fodder for predators.

I love this photo. Back when I was in Prague, I found a bunch of sites telling how to make planet textures and well...areal photographs like this make for some really good "civilized planet" textures...and you'd be surprised at how easy it is to get THIS shot to look like some planet in Star Wars, complete with...well...whatever you'd see from orbit despite the fact that this isn't an orbital photo. Anyway...I really love this shot and the details you've captured. Life looks so interesting from way up there, and I'm looking forward to olive green eggs too! This is gorgeous!

These are so good. It's like you are in a helicopter of hand glider. The green seems almost out of place amid all the urban sprawl.

Lucinda, as always you leave me in awe of your ability to make these cool captures. Love this one as it really shows literally all the details of the area. Of course your clever idea for the title had me drawn in from the start and it was great the way you came up with it with a play upon words from a actual park fact. This beautiful area really does seem to have it all and of course so does your tribute to it here as you provided this image rich in detail as well as the history behind it.

A lovely capture of this part of the world and the name really drew me in and then I found your park fact and I am intrigued. Your nest assignment is to catch a photo of one of the crabs...
