Description

As I was walking past my zinnias (Yesterday afternoon), I noticed one really munched, so I stopped to take a look and the culprit was still sitting on the flower.... I ran in for the camera, quickly switched to the 100mm 2.8 lens and added a +1 close up filter (a new addition- which is the very first time I used one)and my monopod. (I tried the +10 close up filter, but lol, I couldn't get a focus).I began snapping away, unfortunately the wind was blowing pretty good and I think the ISO may have been too high... but oh well, live and learn! It certainly isn't the best macro I have ever seen, but it's mine ;) and I can only improve from here, I hope :P It's really past time I cleaned out that flower bed and pulled up the mostly dried zinnias, but I sure am glad I haven't yet. That, grasshopper?, just posed nicely for me. lol. My previous upload, "Catching Some Rays.....". Thanks for looking :) Have a great day! Hugs, ~Melinda~

I think this turned out fabulous! The focus is on the "culprits" Face! Awesome shot from my view!

You know, "culprits" really should be a bit more subtle when they're turning your garden into a salad, but I have to say that I'm glad this one was brazenly unashamed! You captured it marvelously! I just love that face! Grasshoppers and leafhoppers have such complicated faces, and I love any sort of creature with limbs extending from its mouthparts. Yeah, cockroaches have that mouth-limb thing going too, as to ALL insects and I think that's just so cool! What I really like about this is the crisp greenery, and the way in which the little 'hopper is so not interested in anything human...it's just there, considering whether to eat more or to hop onto a more appetizing bit of salad. This is a marvelous piece of work. I think it's all spot on, and it's most-definitely one of the best insect macros I've seen. It has personality. The little 'hopper has personality and you captured it perfectly and the focus is great. It has a nice mood too...deliciously warm. Great stuff.

is your 100mm lens a macro?if so it probably is one to one ratio and the depth of field is very critical to get a good focus.I have a 105 and 180 mm macros and both are difficult to get much of a critter in focus.usually just the face or another body part.no way the whole bug.dof can be a good thing to blur the background, but also a bad thing for large subjects

And the grasshopper is saying, "Are you looking at me? Are YOU looking at me?" Actually, the focus really isn't that bad in this macro, considering your hasty manipulation of all that camera equipment. Like you said, live and learn.

LOL Its looking at you like .............. "oh oh ... BUSTED". lol I love it. This brought a smile to my face, and you did a GREAT job with this macro!!! You should be PROUD! I have used extra lenses as well but can never get anything very good with 'em. I really should give them another whirl again.
