A work in progress! Hi! My name is Melinda. I am happily married to the love of my life and we have a daughter who is in college. I live in Southern California and I am an amateur photographer. My husband bought me my Kodak P880 for Christmas in 2006. I looked at it and thought I'd never figure it out! I've only taken regular every day snapshots and never looked through the lens in a "creative" way. Then in March 2007 someone introduced me to Renderosity.  In May, I became brave and decided to upload my first photo... I haven't been able to put my camera down since! LOL. I still have a lot to learn, but I sure am having fun doing it. I have come a long way though. This time last year, I couldn't even put a photo on the computer! Now I have started to research DSLR cameras ... Who knows what the future brings! Update: I now have that DSLR :) Was the best Christmas (2008) gift!   I did the research and picked it out and Santa put it under the tree. It's a Canon Rebel Xsi .

I have a new DSLR, the Canon 7OD. A gift from my husband for Mother's Day. So much to explore!

You know, "culprits" really should be a bit more subtle when they're turning your garden into a salad, but I have to say that I'm glad this one was brazenly unashamed! You captured it marvelously! I just love that face! Grasshoppers and leafhoppers have such complicated faces, and I love any sort of creature with limbs extending from its mouthparts. Yeah, cockroaches have that mouth-limb thing going too, as to ALL insects and I think that's just so cool! What I really like about this is the crisp greenery, and the way in which the little 'hopper is so not interested in anything human...it's just there, considering whether to eat more or to hop onto a more appetizing bit of salad. This is a marvelous piece of work. I think it's all spot on, and it's most-definitely one of the best insect macros I've seen. It has personality. The little 'hopper has personality and you captured it perfectly and the focus is great. It has a nice mood too...deliciously warm. Great stuff.

is your 100mm lens a macro?if so it probably is one to one ratio and the depth of field is very critical to get a good focus.I have a 105 and 180 mm macros and both are difficult to get much of a critter in focus.usually just the face or another body part.no way the whole bug.dof can be a good thing to blur the background, but also a bad thing for large subjects

And the grasshopper is saying, "Are you looking at me? Are YOU looking at me?" Actually, the focus really isn't that bad in this macro, considering your hasty manipulation of all that camera equipment. Like you said, live and learn.

LOL Its looking at you like .............. "oh oh ... BUSTED". lol I love it. This brought a smile to my face, and you did a GREAT job with this macro!!! You should be PROUD! I have used extra lenses as well but can never get anything very good with 'em. I really should give them another whirl again.
