In the deepest places of the UnderDark, where the red, glowing fungus of the cavern ceilings is the only light, there are those that have the courage or insanity to go even deeper. The Drow, despite their habitat, stay to their cities and the protection of the populated caverns. There are mysteries, horrors, and beasts out there, in the wilds of the UnderDark, that none dare face without an army at your side. None save the Deep Delvers that is.

The few truly exceptional Drow might become Rangers. One in a thousand of those becomes a Deep Delver. Not only do they venture where few others would go, they live out there, in the wild of the UnderDark. Many don’t live long, as the horrors of the UnderDark are too terrible to contemplate. There are races not yet seen by civilized Drow or even the mad Derro. There are cracks opening into the bowels of the world, from which there is no escape once that descent is made. There is the constant threat of a million tons of rock perched above your head, waiting to fall at any instant. There is the groaning, creaking, shifting sound of the world itself. But for those who have no fear of confined spaces, no fear of the dark, and no fear of being trapped in a tiny pocket of air five to ten miles beneath the surface,… well, have fun with that. Let me know how it turns out for you. I’ll be on a beach in the Island Federation, sucking down rum drinks out of coconut shells with little umbrellas in them,… nothing over my head but a palm tree and miles and miles of open sky.
