Description

This is my first attempt to model a tyre, based on a tutorial I have seen on You Tube, this doesn't use bump or displacment mapping but is modelled complete in Polygons. This is version 2 with a few tweeks and I am quite pleased with how it looks so far. Looking for a little feedback please...I think side wall lettering would make a big difference, your comments would be very useful in case I am missing something really silly. Tyre is supposed to be a Pirelli P Zero, Modelled in Maya, Rendered in Maya with metal Ray...Thx

I would say this is a most excellent model! I like your idea of white lettering on the side. That would really be a nice touch! I think as set of these would look great on any modern car! Great job!

Your tweaks have improved the model.....although there is a loss of symmetry. But at least you have tread breking up that smooth line....I am not a tire expert ....but try symmetry down the middle of the tire and see what that does.any added details ie: white lettering will pump the look up some more...even small dark lettering such as tire info will add to the realism....the cool thing is after you get one done you can duplicate them !! Thanks for that eh? I do remember when I made my first one.

most all tires vary the tread design radially (the blocks getting longer then shorter - slightly) to reduce tread induced buzz or harmonics with the road surface. Not necessary on this model (nor the 4 or 5 equally spaced lateral tread depth wear bars in the grooves) as most people don't notice this on the real tires - lol. Black (white lettering makes me shiver - lol) lettering would be the perfect finishing touch. - and nice wheel -

Thanks for all the help and comments. I am happy with the model as it is now, don't want to much more resolution so I can use it on a car model, this is part of a car model project which is also my first car model looking good so far will post when all complete.
