Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

super interior shot

The good news is that you get it and get it you did! To me, there is almost an art deco theme to this room. I like different POVs...even if you have to be scared half to death while shooting from it:) Nice work Marilyn.

Very nice shot. Love the details in this picture :)

Fabulous! What a deprived woman..she'll never know what joys she's missed!

Looks like a fun place.

I get that alot. I had a lady stop and tell me I was out of my mind to take a picture of a vacant lot downtown. "What the **** do you think you are taking a picture of?" she said. Well, honestly, I wasn't sure but I did it anyway. :-)

Taking pics of interesting angles in downtown Seattle, a woman came over and said, "What are you taking pictures of?" When I showed her, she said, "If you're not from around here, I can show you some way prettier buildings than THAT one!" I assured her I'd lived here all my life, and she wandered off, shaking her head. Why DO these people care what we're doing? It's not like we're asking them to buy us more film to support our habit. :P I love this shot, as you know. Excellent color, composition, conrast ... it's superb!

I don't know whether to laugh over the mental image you just created in telling the tale here, or whether to weep for her and her limited sensibilities. The story both amused me, and gave me a tinge of ...well...nearly...angst, for lack of a better adjective, I guess. I'm a very amateurish photographer, and wouldn't dare pain anyone here (oh trust me...it WOULD be painful) with posting my feeble attempts. But, I do know the blessing/curse of just seeing the entire world through some sort of artistic parallax view that others around me don't always seem to get. So, with that, I say...Here, Here! One mighty fine shot this is. And, personally, I happen to love the table level view. Heck, I just like the capture overall. In fact, Ruby's looks like my kind of place. :)

I cant believe you took this photo....it's just weird......you must be weird.... definitely weird!!!! Ha ha I think she is one of those people who if they have a camera it is kept in the cupboard for weddings and birthdays, trips to the Grand Canyon or just because she got it duty free with the smokes and the booze! She did take a photo of a flower once, but that was in a friends back yard after they had taken the group shot and two spares in case the first two didn't come out! She has a camera in her cell phone, but that's only used for lurid online shots!!!!! I was just thinking too that if I worked in a restaurant and said to a patron what she said to you, I would be hauled over the coals by the boss quick smart!

LOL!!! You keep right on being weird, you're in good company here! I've had the same experience when taking shots of the wall lamps in the waiting room at the massage salon, and the glass reflection in the waiting room at the lawyer's office. Non-photographers just don't get it, do they? But one of our nurses at work carefully parked in a different spot this morning so as not to disturb my shoot of the falling leaves in the parking lot today...I'm getting my coworkers trained!

LOL!!! That has happened to me several times during my photography ventures, especially when and where it concerns animals, property and vehicles. The best I ever get are suspicious stares. It's a wonder I haven't been horse whipped yet by the paranoid and suspicious inhabitants of my city. Anyway, cool capture snapped within the friendly confines of Ruby's, Maz.

happy you got the shot and to open someone eyes to the worldof photo takeing. bet she thinking now of buying camera. Might be a cheap camera but you show her something she never thought of before

Three cheers for sticking up for the rest of us! :>) Great POV and doing what you have to do, to get the shot. Way to go Marilyn. Dana

from the comments, I can see that photography stories really get people talking! But the picture does too. First, about the story: I'm sure everyone has their version...you know mine already, and I'm still too timid to do what you did, get down on table-level in a restaurant. I'm not there yet---Your capture is wonderful: great lines, the room looks like it goes in all kinds of directions, lots of interplay of hue and form, those menus look fascinating, and your treatment of the shot makes it look like a vision, with those greenish 'tiers' stepping out of the walls and into the ceiling, and the green-tinted light, and even those surfer symbols in the corners. It's all centered by the table upfront with its shiny green surface. Definitely worth the risk of shooting on that angle. Though I do have one question: You said you were on your way to the rest rooms: This wasn't a rest room, right? I mean, tell me it wasn't. First, it's wayyyyyyy too big. I'd feel like I was relieving myself in a stadium. Secondly, a bit of overkill I'd say, even though I know ladies' rooms have furniture in them. (None in men's room. None. Trust me, it's bare-floors & walls.) So this is a room they save for nighttime? For parties? No one's in it...so it must be. Anyway, it's another marilyn special, I love the skewed angles and the intense light and the capture of so many shapes and hues...a cornucopia. I'll be back for more, but had to stop in your gallery another time before I moved on, this early sunday morning. Love this shot. I hope their food is as good as their interior!

I loved this when I first saw it and am finally getting around to commenting. I love the mixture of everyday diner (metal chairs, glossy metal rimmed tables, and booths) and a massive amount of elegance. The beautifully lit and clean lines of the stepped greens, the cool turquoise and purple and the rich red, and the menus which have a delicate Japanese look, all give it a very refined and polished look a bit at odds with the metal trimming of the furniture. I love that, and I love the light, the reflections, and the prominently displayed roll of silverware and napkin. I was really confused by the guy in his underwear in front of a cross, until I read Mark's comment. You can tell I'm not from southern California. Very superb capture and interesting story. So far I've just gotten weird looks. Very weird looks on occasion, but no words.
