Description
Say, ma'am, I'd be much obliged if ya can serve me up some of that fine smellin' raccoon stew and corn pone!
Taking a short respite from the shot, shell and smoke of the battle to bring you a glimpse of Confederate life behind the lines.
Captured 7/31/10, at the American Civil War Reenactment, held at the vast and beautiful El Dorado Park in beautiful Long Beach, California.
Better viewed full size.
Pic #1 shows a scantily clad visitor from the 21st century joining in on the gathering.
And I like the last foto showing everyone's grandmother preparing pies.
Adieu, thankx for popping in, and for any and all complimentary comments and favs.

I examined each photo, thinking I might see something that should not be there.....these folks did an amazing job making sure everything was as it should have been back then. It must have been a very enjoyable experience.

Wonderful slice of history, but I'll pass on the raccoon stew, thanks! I know from reading that anything and everything ended up in the stew pots out of necessity, but I just love raccoons as living furry critters, not as food. Same for squirrels, deer, bears, etc., to my family's dismay (I have an uncle who's an avid hunter and taxidermist. You don't want to know what's in our deep freeze!) But I digress. The costumes are perfect, not too fancy, not too "Hollywood", and everything (aside from the denim-cutoff-clad visitor) is perfectly period. Well done capturing this aspect of the event!

I'm glad they stopped to take a rest and a bite to eat too. Excellent captures in this collage and the detail in the costumes are very well done.

lol, I see a number of comments on 'raccoon stew'---ok, I can see why they're not running out to get a bowl---but I don't even know what 'corn pone' is. Ok---I just looked it up: It's a flat corn BREAD. Ha! I thought it was the corn cob or something. Ok...moving on...This is a delightful collection, all kinds of shots of people gathering, eating, milling, happy, and just plain distracted. And once again you didn't try for posed shots but got them being themselves. I see the modern dressed woman in #1, and oddly, she seems to fit in. Also the guy in the center of that shot, I swear, is my cousin. He never said he was doing these events, but he's in tv production out there, just learning, and he COULD be there as they use actors & set people for these events. I'll have to ask. Anyway, it's a nice circle of people. #2 & 3 show us all the random movements and stuff that accompany these affairs, with nice shots of the pan rack and people sitting & milling around. Oh, and that guy in #3, at the very left edge? He looks like he's having a grand old time. Glad you included him: He looks like a musician...#4 has a nice gathering at the food bar (great costumes btw!) And 5, yes, that's almost the highlight of the collection because she's the grandmother of the world making pies. A warm & wonderful capture. (How do you get them so they don't pose for you? I point a camera ANYWHERE in this neighborhood, people either smile at me or they duck. I can't get them to just 'be'. "Ninja" doesn't work around here. Besides I don't wanna be taken away by the police. You get people with total ease: I always respected that.)

I think these are awesome shots Harry...the folks in the first shot really look tired and ready to eat you have set them up very nicely...I am impressed....sorry it took me so long to get here to comment...I had not forgotten you...I'm just slow....I love how they hang their pots and pans and dishes actually...very well presented.
