Description

This is the old woodshed at Patrizio and Milena's house in the countryside, just outside Padova. Patrizio is a former colleague of mine and a very generous friend. They decided to go away from Padova decades ago, and I like to visit them, but I could never leave my urbanite habits. Anyway, this is the woodshed they found, almost a rotten ruin, when they bought the house and some land from an old farmer. Just before they decided to pull the thing down, the local art historian told them this is a precious remnant of the early 20th century farmers' woodsheds. So they restored it, added some roses, and a statue in the local stone made by Patrizio, an amateur sculptor. In the background, you can see the vineyard attached to the house, which produces some indifferent white wine Patrizio sells to the local winery, after giving up to any effort to turn from a retired engineer into a real farmer (his wife is still working as a primary school teacher). Thank you for your kind comments.

Sandra, thank you so much for sharing this pic with us along with the history behind it. Knowing that this bit of history was almost lost makes it even better and thank Heaven that Historian informed them and it was saved. In this day of modern structures and pushing our past aside this is so refreshing.

Very interesting colors! We have a wood fungus that you always find covering those old decrepit farm buildings that is an almost identical shade of orange.

A wonderful old building. I fear in America we would have long ago torn down the coliseum and put in condominiums. I love your honesty. It seems Patrizio is a better friend than vintner.
