Description

Lake Michigan, October 2010. Again, much better full-size... * * *
Thanks so much for your responses since I've come back: They've meant the world to me! And thanks for your patience as I catch up with your galleries: When you've been gone awhile, it takes time---but it's a real joy. I'll be back tonight...
Have a wonderful day! Mark

This is such a fantastic capture, Mark. Just as you would see the waves for real and I can hear the roaring waves rolling in. It is such a dramatic and powerful shot mark. A true masterpiece. I love it.

This is so beautiful; I love those rays coming down from above. You sure do get up early for a recuperating person! Now stand back from the edge...

Oh, I get a feeling of on-coming winter weather in Chicago as I look at this deliciously choppy lake shore shot. I think you will REALLY be liking Thanksgiving in Florida this year. Light...light...your pics are all about light:) Fine photo.

What a lovely and inspiring picture Mark, and it reminds me so much of you and the effect you have on the lives of so many here in the gallery. Sometimes in life things can seem a bit dark and murky like the waters here and people can find themselves being pulled down emotionally. Then there are those moments when the clouds roll back and the sun shines it's warm and comforting rays down. This is what your presence is for so many here my friend, for your caring and loving nature are the rays that make us feel better and give so many a lift.

Glorious! You inspire me to ATTEMPT to get up earlier and go to the beach first thing.. we shall see how my resolve holds when the weather turns cold! It is so good to have you back.and Dave is absolutely right in what he says about you! A perfect composition, by the way!

One can almost feel the power of the waves in this,Mark. The sunlight really helps the eye focus on the ship in the distance.Must be cold out there this time of year.

The water looks so old and foreboding, but I echo Dave's thoughts, in that your presence is always warming to the soul as those beautiful rays. :) Very beautiful image. Not so easy to take either methinks. I can just see you crouching down on the beach, trying to keep from falling flat in the sand while you pull up your strength to hold the camera steady. I hope you don't get too chilled taking these.

I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed seeing Lake Michigan through your eyes this past year. My personal recollection of your lake is 75F weather with rented palm trees and a pretentious violinist, and waves maybe 5/8" high. Maybe 3/4". Something right in there. I am mesmerized by the sleek face of the wave, the way the color changes from dark and ineffable to quicksilver in shade. Gorgeous light and color ... this draws me in, and I realize (finally) that my feet are getting wet!

Your dawn shots are so full of magic and light and this one is up there with the best of them. I like what Tara said about Lake Michigan as well--we did have rather different view of it. It's like any body of water, constantly changing, ever different--and you catch it so well.

another dollar. Superlative DOF, black & white ocean contrast, composition, lighting, horizon rays and textures in this magnificent standing-on-the shore photo, Mark!

I love how you catch the light in your pictures and this one looks amazing with the sun making the lake sparkle and shine. The rays are also lovely but it is the water that really catches my eye and makes me want to test how cold it is.

You really tempt me to wander out of my southern boonies to take a trip into the city to see these in person. Wonderfully captured morning image! : )

Wow, you've captured so many moods in this photo. The undulating, heavy waves are full of a kind of dark, voluptuous energy and mystery, and on the horizon the clouds are casting such ethereal rays and look like waterfalls of light. And sunlight dances on everything. Really lovely. CC

This is fantastic. It's amazing how you were able to capture so much of the waves' energy.

I see you've abandoned the pier (after your baptism), and have taken to walking where the waves are somewhat more predictable. I'm sure your camera approves! I've loved this series of waves and light - each photo has a totally different mood. This one has a touch of menace and foreboding (not too serious, just a bit like a grumbling old man), but the mood is lifted by the light "dancing on everything", as Carol put it. Beautiful.

Dawn light has a mystical quality, evening light a magical one. This one has almost a spiritual feel to it. I love the "god rays", like a benediction of the waters.
