Description

Within living memory there were only a couple of reasonably safe ways to get to the Caribbean from the States. The first was by ship or boat (tourist or sailor), the other was by flying boat. (Just in case it had to land on the water). What we have here is a PanAm Clipper within sight of land, just before WWII. As usual in the tropics, it's either sunny or there's a storm coming up. (I settled for the latter, everybody does sunshine!)

Great image. I'm reading Ken Follett's Night Over Water which is about a trip on one of these planes.
