Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

This is fantastic! I can bet that it isn't too safe for someone to climb! Though I sure would to do so and get some shots from it

Excellent capture! Looks like it's ready and waiting to work once again. :)

Ah, so it still has purpose in life! A willing subject for those who would preserve its beauty for future generations. And it does have a certain beauty, I must admit. You've captured it well, Bill!

Great capture Bill...

What an amazing capture! I love the fact that this is just dripping and oozing with history. Times change, and not always for the better, but what remains is always of interest in that it's the remnant of a whole world, a whole way of thinking, and I love that odd sort of poetic resonance. I am NOT sentimental in any way whatsoever, but I love remnants of the past and the ability such remnants have to make me conjure stories--most of which probably bear no resemblance to the way things were, but perhaps, the way they should have been. I feel the urge to create stories around this image: to imagine the lives you've captured by simply capturing this thing. Marvelous. As for the pure photograph itself, what lines and color! I love it. There's a sturdy elegance to this, and a sense of purpose that is now no longer necessary, but far, far, far from forgotten. This is exquisite! I like this a lot.

What a super pic! I could spend a long time there, and I think I'd have to do some drawings.

Beautiful photo. The angle is just right to catch both the pier and the hoist. To me, it looked like the type of elevating ramps for driving vehicles on/off a ferry or freighter. When I read your text it became instantly clear to me what it was. So sad to just stand there abandonned. Wonder what it will look like 50 years from now? And, as some have said above, a sad testimony to the tragedies the people who worked there were struck with. Keep up the good work! :-)

splendid shot!

Splendid colors and texture in this foto of the old timer, Bill. Unless the wood is petrified, I wonder after all these years if it could hoist up anything of consequence without snapping and falling apart under the load.
