Description

Gab and I drove out one day to Jefferson County on the Olympic Peninsula. It's a rural area dotted with small hamlets. We picked up Jim, a retired friend of his, and headed out in the direction of Port Townsend. We stopped for lunch at a place called Fat Smitty's. Run by a retired Marine and his son and daughter the Smitty Burger is about the size of the one in the picture. It is huge. Considering what's on the menu the son and daughter are surprisingly thin and wiry. It's one of those places with the MIA flag on the wall along with various military insignia donated by previous customers. The ceiling and walls are covered with dollar bills signed by guests.

Perhaps they are vegetarian. What an interesting place it looks, but I wouldn't put a hamurger near my face unless i hadn't eaten for a week.

Hamburgers! That all American food. Places like this beat the fast food places, hands down.

Oh see, this is one of those places people may pass and say 'no, let's not stop. It's just a little hole in the wall place.' Well, I have learned that these places, along with diners and truck stops tend to have great food...food we tend to think of as comfort food such as meatloaf, mac and cheese, etc...and lots of it for a good prince. We don't see many places like this anymore...sigh.

Methinks a 'burger' THAT size should be named, "THE WIDOWMAKER" on their menu? WINK. WONDERFUL pic/shot and narrative and SALUTE!

Never trust a skinny cook... well in this case, from your review, sounds pretty good to me. Looks like a fun place to visit.

Wonderful capture of this place in its gaudy splendor! Great color, and composition. I don't eat hamburgers all that often, but there is a place here called Texas Hamburger Company, that has a guacamole burger that is really good. You have to have a lot of napkins handy when you eat it though, because the burger starts to slide out of the bun at the first bite.
