Description

The Dwarf Spiny Tail Iguana inhabits dry forestland in Michoacan, Mexico. The IUCN Redlist rates the species as VU(vulnerable). Other sources rate it as critically endangered. Either way, habitat loss is the cause. The photograph shows one of forty of these iguanas that are in the United States. She is a rescue. All of them in the US are in zoos or herpetology societies. Only through heightened awareness can we help her kind and others survive. I'd like to thank No Limit Exotic Pets and Rescue (of Portland, Oregon) for their help and patience in allowing me to photograph her. Thank you for visiting my gallery, and for any comments you make. A big "Thanks" goes out to any who have favorited me or my work. By the way, the lizard is "undraped" (as the Victorians would say), but I don't think that matters a fig.

My sister is a rehabber in Texas and even after many years, she still is shocked by the amount of ignorance she finds in folk keeping these wonderful creatures as pets yet knowing little about them! I live in the UK, and it is exactly the same here. It seems to be a 'human' thing! Fabulous image and information. ^=^

Allen, a fine shot! Of as you say, a very rare lizard.. I fear (and this may just be my look on the world), that once its reached the state it is now, its doomed.. It will possibly survive in collections.. But... :-( Man is 'breeding' to fast, and most of them beyond caring.. Excellent shot, my friend.. Stay well.. All the best to you and Lea.. Rob
