Description

This POV is looking down from Lipan Point, on the south rim, on the eastern end, near the previously posted Watchtower. The Colorado River runs mostly in a straight line. This shot shows the spot where the river makes its most drastic change. The red formation across the front is part of the Escalante Butte. Directly behind that and to the right is part of Cardenas Butte. The area on the other side of the river is the Basalt Cliffs. If you look to the left side you can see a shallow canyon that has been carved by the Unkar Creek. Photo taken spring 1996.
