Description

As I promised yesterday, here comes the last post in this construction site series. This is the beginning of the south entrance to a several storey underground parking garage under a projected 3 storey shopping center extension and 11 storey apartment building. The photo shows a wall segment made by drilling and cutting into the rock with the machines I posted previously, then filling the cavity with reinforced concerte. In the photo, the ground has been excavated to a depth of over two meters at the right edge of the photo. The rough appearance of part of the wall is due concrete getting into natural cavities in the rock. These will be smoothed by a 1 meter diameter circular "saw". The farther part of the wall has been partly demolished. The blue cart with acetylene torches gives an idea of the size of the wall and the excavation. The building to the right is a school. In the middle is part of the Malmoe Art Gallery, and the concrete tower middle left is part of the Malmoe City Theatre/Opera House. Enjoy!

Looks like they're doing a good job - it's all pretty neat, apart from the unavoidable mud. Would be interesting to see the finished job. Great capture of this workmanship!

I began my college experience thinking I wanted to be a civil engineer...thanks to my inability in the math department, I wound up as a liberal arts major, BUT this is a fascinating bit of engineering. Thnaks for the view and description.
